13,000 this week? I'd be very surprised if that happens.

Think there'll be a reasonable distinct mark of crowds falling when they moved the first three weeks finals back to footy park, especially if you take into account the supporter base of the teams involved.

On the City-Bay, why don't the SANFL offer to be a sponsor, and include a free ticket to that week's finals for participants?

The SANFL has been a feeder league since 1991.

Smaller events are now being talked about as factors for crowd drop offs. Never heard of the City Bay being a reason for low footy figures. I wonder how many runners in that race are International or from other states and don't even know what the SANFL is?

The Royal Show is a good reason for crowds to drop off but if we are talking City Bay it is showing that support is dropping off regardless.

When you have record numbers for the City to Bay they are bound to be a majority of locals. Think more people went in that run than have been in total attendance at recent GFs.....

Going down that path, then look well before 1991.

Could it also indicate that less are planning to spend mid September at the footy?

I might field this one to a degree.

I'm not sure about first week figures but I've compiled a table derived from the Wikipedia* crowd figures from 2003 onwards. (Not sure about the 2008 finals figure in their numbers, does seem inordinately high, happy to be wrong though.)

Averages for the five (or three in 2003) minor finals.

2003_ 8293
2004_ 6999
2005_ 3077
2006_ 5855
2007_ 6807
2008_ 10448
2009_ 6517
2010_ 6591
2011_ 5431
2012_ 4530

Agreed =D>

Why not give all junior football grade players free family passes to finals.

Work it out SANFL.

Not everyone is going to come...

Fill the seats.

Get the atmosphere and junior involvement.

Almost as good as a pie night. :D

Maybe a free pie on the day?

Fill the seats and get the football park caterers economy moving. :D

Dad's drink beer and love pie's. :D
Smile :)

It's only Money $$$ :)

What is happening to our SANFL guys...

2008 had nearly 23,000 to the semi finals so those figures would be right Dogger.

All finals bar the grand final should be played at home ground of team that finished higher on the ladder.

I understand the whole debate that it is easier for the tv network to have both games at 1 ground but surely for atmosphere purposes finals have to be played at the local grounds.

Also which tv station is showing the league next year?

As has been mentioned numerous times I believe SANFL finals will still be at Football Park in the immediate future.
Have the SANFL made an official statement as to where finals will be played?

All the promotion for the GF revolves around it 'being the last game at Footy Park' which suggests the finals will be elsewhere next year.
