Hello all potential participants,
As you are probably well aware AFL 9s has undergone major changes prior to the commencement of the next and new competitions. Tags are gone and we will conform with the rest of Australia with the ball touching the ground resulting in a turnover. AFL 9s will become more of a non-contact game and will truly continue to evolve into “The game for everyone”
It will be COMPULSORY for all umpires and competition managers to complete the accreditation and training module before performing their roles. At this stage any potential or current manager or umpire should attend the upcoming session so they can be considered qualified to perform their roles within AFL 9s. I would also like all current managers to forward this e-mail to current team contacts as they are welcome to attend the day as it will help facilitate the transition for their individual teams and ensure AFL 9s has uniformity Australia wide.
I was invited to attend the rules and Australian management meeting in January and have a clear understanding of the rules and interpretations for AFL 9s and the FAQs that occur in the implementation of the new rules. Be very clear in the fact that the rule change will remove much of the unnecessary contact and contests that occur in our game including the spoiling rule which I found to be the major area of concern in the rules this year. The game will become much easier to umpire also with far fewer decisions based on interpretation. We have trialled it in our winter corporate cup and at various exhibitions and even the most sceptical of participants have come to realise that the new AFL 9s is even more fun, it’s just as fast and it becomes safer and user friendly for all participants.
Date/Time ; Wednesday October 9th 6m-8pm
Location ; Aami stadium and Max Basheer for practical
Cost ; $ 0
RSVP ; By Tuesday September 24th at 5pm to my e-mail or mobile listed below
Upon successful completion of the day you will be a Level 0 accredited AFL 9s umpire. All potential umpires will receive the new AFL 9s umpires shirt. Subway will be served at the conclusion of the course. The module contains both theory and practical so please be suitably attired to umpire and play a very light game of AFL 9s.
PLEASE NOTE ; Any umpire who has not done the accreditation and training course will NOT be rostered to umpire over the Spring competition. We will have 7 different leagues/zones starting October 14th over 4 different nights (Monday-Thursday) and the opportunity is there for individuals to make a lot of easy tax free $ with the new rules designed to make it not just better to play but easier to umpire. Please forward this e-mail to any umpires who may not have been included or may be interested in this opportunity.
Regards,
Tom Javor
