Graham Wright mentioned that the Hawks still want Billy Longer as well.
Saints must be working on some other deals.

It would have been good to have more umpires who have played the game and I think more should be done to capture younger players who leave the AFL system and try and get them into umpiring.
Legitimate question, was he any better than the rest of them because he was seen as having more of a feel for the game?
Or did the umpires finish up turning him into a moronic robot with no sense of the game?
It's shocking news about his brother however but the comment about getting more ex players into the system needs further investigation on many counts.
"feel for the game" is such a cop out when talking about umpiring. It suggests that the umpires should be continually altering their interpretation of the rules based on how the game is unfolding. Yet we also hear the same people bleating about consistency. If umpires were truly worse than the average pundit despite hours of training and coaching then getting better ones would be easy.
Not to mention when you look at how we all treat umpires, you start to wonder why the heck to any of them bother? Bust ass, do the best you can in a role that the game can't proceed without and 24/7 you cop crap. Read some of the comments about the ump who won the house and how less deserving he was of winning and no wonder we have trouble getting any.

Didnt know about that- not sure why we would be after another ruckman, surely a perma forward would be on our radar?

At the end of the day its no secret that next year is make or break for Butch- has an average year next year and I dare say we will be going hammer and tong for a key forward in next years FA / trade period.

Yeah from what ive read, the interest in Stanley was to free up Westoff which would make sense.

Ah yes- makes sense. Westoff as a roaming defender for an entire game would be very handy.
