are norwood the real deal ??

The jury is still out in my opinion but we'll certainly know after the next month with games against Sturt, Centrals and North to come.

I think they'll make the 5, I still rate Norwood higher than Sturt.
South and Eagles are the unknown and it looks like North have run the Bays back into some form.
Its a bloody lottery now.

as a genuine premiership contender no not the real deal

but as a finalist absolutely as they have now got a bloke (vlatko) now kicking more than 2 or 3 goals a game & that has been norwoods problem in recent seasons they get the ball but can not convert, they now are converting & there is borlace, gibson & a couple of others to come back into the side as well
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

If they are the fittest team, then how did Central manage to kick 11 goals to 1 in the last 1/4 at the Parade in a game that was very even up until 3/4 time?

that can happen esp against the dogs, but they have also had some big wins against good opposition, they run games out and their pre-season was very very very instense

I'd be interested to see how they go should the Crows pick Massie and/or Campbell. Still, they have Borlace to come back into the side. They were very impressive. 2nd best side I've seen this year so far.

Aerie and Giffo make good points ... I believe the club's pre-season work held an emphasis on improving strength and pace, "burst" fitness if you like and I often wonder whether the boys haven't spent most of their petrol tickets by 3/4 time.

Mass will be a big loss when he returns to the Crows no doubt, but I think we can cover his absence better than someone like Bryce Cambell.

The club has good depth at the moment, with players like Pfeiffer, Zorsi, Hill, Borlace, Gibson, Wonaemerri, Meeson (both played magoos on weekend), Jericho to return.

I'm with Topsy on this one, the jury is still well and truly out ... On current form we're good enough to play finals, but there's still a long way to go and a lot that needs to be achieved in that time.

norwood won't be the real deal until they can put four quarters together - the difference between their best and their worst is just too big and opposition sides tend to take full advantage of this gap.
however, their best is good enough to really trouble sides; especially if they attack through the middle like they did on saturday during the second quarter.
they seem to have a good mix of grunt and skil through the midfield and their defence runs off their opponents well - this can be found out if a booboo happens.
centrals (this hurts to say) are the best four quarter side I've seen this year but I think norwood are on the improve.
go the legs.
always forgive your enemies...nothing annoys them so much

I don't mind them only playing three quarters if, like Saturday, they're fourteen goals up at three quarter time!

Let's just make the five first before we worry about this real deal stuff. However, after a bleak time things are starting to gell again for the Legs.

I'd still like to see us take on your lot this year, REB. Norwood learned a lot four weeks ago under lights. They've put it into good performances since - but like all sides they switch off for periods, and can get burned. The West game was a good example of that. Percentage might be the factor for Norwood finishing third or fourth in the minor round...

Dutchy, if the legs are the fittest side in the comp what happened in the last quarter against the Roosters who had just played 3/4s with 19 men and were cherry ripe to be run over. That coupled with the last quarter against the Dogs blows your statement to the scheitzen hausen :butthead: :butthead:

In this day and age you would imagine that all sides share a relatively even level of fitness ... Running out the games therefore probably comes down to a combination of things like how taxing a style a side might play or how many goals a team is able to kick in the final quarter etc.

From all accounts, Rick Mac has his charges much fitter than they were last season at Unley.

Exactly. Also at the Parade a while back North only had 19 players all night and we were still able to run over the top of them.

You guys probably sell yourself a bit short with that example ... In both cases I think Central and North were just simply too good, I don't think it was fitness that cost Norwood either of those two.
