I stand by my comments and now with us looking down at another wooden spoon it is time he started coaching as his life depended on it or look elsewhere. An ordinary side beat Westies on the weekend cause they wanted the win more than we wanted it. You can blame all you want but if a side cannot lift when it is down and out because the coach doesn't know how to get them to lift you have problems. Any side with a bit of talent can win a match it is knowing how to unleash that talent is the key. Fos Williams had that ability to do this the Weed hasn't. Am top coach can win matches with any sort of player because he makes the player believe that they can win a match no matter if it is a kid in his first senior game or a 300 game veteran in his last.

"Time he started coaching as if his life depended on it".

You obviously see these things better from 750kms away.

West were travelling really well, with wins over Glenelg and the Eagles and a narrow loss to Port. Presumably Weed was coaching well at that stage.

Take out Peter Walsh, Damien Cupido, Ryan Willitts, Robbie Gray, Matthew Barber, Kurt Tippett and Jame Ezard and we don't have the depth.

It would be the same as Sturt without Chambers, Feast, Sheedy, Nelson, Weatherald and one or two others. Same for most clubs.

Look beyond knee-jerk reactions, Strawb and perhaps become a supporter, not a witch-hunter.

R&B I am not looking for a witch hunt. All I am getting at is we have kids coming through and instead of being hungry for a win they don't know how to play good, hard tough football. I can live with narrow losses but after losing to south when they are no better than we are and now looking down the barrel of a third wooden spoon in a row how do you think i as many others would react. How many games did the weed win as coach for the twos? In all honesty when Doug made the Weed as coach i as a few others thought it wasn't the smartest move the club has made. It was like after Kevin Morris left and they got Kerls back Rod O'Riely should have been made coach not getting Kerls back. This is the same instance. Doug did some good for the club but didn;t look at the long term and thats what i am getting at we should start looking long term and the weed isn't the sort of coach i would have for the long term.

Not being a Westies supporter I can't pass judgement on this one, however I think it's worth pointing out some similarities with my own club Norwood, particularly in terms of the younger memebers of the Senior Squad.

Norwood are now seeing the first real glimpse of benefit of several kids they have played over the last few years ... Most of them played together in an exceptional U/19's team (lol that coincidentally lost the GF to Westies) and have had good wraps ... Several are still plying their trades in the Magoo's, some have left the club, and the others are now just starting to make an impact at the club.

Players like Gibson, Pfeiffer, Brunoli, Nitschke, Vlatko, Campbell, Duigan, Lower, Wonaemerri, Puopolo, Donahue, Aish, Cockshell, Thomas, DeJongh have all been regulars this year, but are still only about 18-22yrs old and virtual babies of the SANFL still - some more than others obviously) ... And thats before you include draftee's that have departed in recent seasons.

I'm not trying to Hijack this to become a Norwood thread, just trying to highlight the patience that is required ... Westies are in such a similar boat to Norwood it's not funny ... We've seen (and still do) some awesome stuff from these younger lads over the last two years and in turn the expectancy increases, often unfairly.

Both of our clubs haven't had the luxury of bringing one or two quality kids in per game amongst star-studded lineups as perhaps Central, Eagles And North have.

Westies fans will naturally be pulling their hair out, we have, we still do and we probably still will for a while, but more time is required than most fans are prepared to give - Stick with them, it will happen for them as it will for most rebuilding clubs.

A few of us noticed Phil Carman at the Round 1 game at Richmond. It was speculated by several of us Sturt fans that he was the vulture hovering around the Weed's carcass...

Listen, as a witness to the very poor effort by westies, i would not say the south list is nearly as strong as last year. You are over rating it.

What i will say some of the younger players on your list showed some real potential of saturday and u have something to look forward to in the future

The money that Prendegast is alledged to be getting is a joke, he has been quite average this season for such a HIGH profile recruit, ive seen him 4-5 times. On the other hand McGrath has been very impressive

Gotta agree with CP and others in saying Westies are in what you might call a "vacuum period". There's not a lot showing with on field performances at present but post-Doug they are certainly going through a period of significant cultural change.

1. Damien Phillips appointed. I was very impressed with the transparency of the appt process and even as a Norwood supporter I got wrapped up in it all and couldn't wait to log in and find out who got the gig that Friday night it was announced. There were weekly website updates throughout for all to see.

2. Westies won an under-age flag last year (19s was it?). That success will take time to filter through.

3. Based on Weed's record, you might have expected the club to overlook the indiscretions of a few league players early in the season. Not so - Weed put them out of any footy for a week. Tough decision in any circumstances never mind those when he isn't winning.

I'm not sure what the Weed's "pitch" was at his interview, but maybe it was one like Alastair Clarkson's - limited success anticipated for a few years but then success will surface. Look where Clarkson is with the Hawks now?
Steve Bradbury and Michael Milton. Aussie Legends.

Try and give the Weed the support he deserves.

I think the only thing missing at West is experience.

I have heard some stories about the Weed. No-One puts in harder.

The days of a Neil Kerley bottom to top in one season will never happen again.

Team maturity will come.

Get those "MUST ATTEND" after training Bar-B-Q's going at the coaches house, if they havent already started.

Get Mrs_Weed involved

Create a Dynasty

Get everyone envolved positively at the club.

Its an even competition. Stick by your coach.

Two great posts from Squawk and Dog_ger, posts that more Westies supporters should be reading.

It's a pity it takes a Norwood and a Centrals supporter to come out and support both our club and our coach.

Where are all the Bloods supporters?

Obviously there have been a few in this thread putting their hand up and saying lets support the club, but not very many.

Says alot IMO about how "the coach" is far from the main problem facing the WAFC's new admin.

It took Dougie 3 decades to build a dynasty of mediocrity it is going to take more than a half a season of football for Mr Phillips and Co. to turn this little ship around.

The more resistance and less support they get from us their so called supporters the longer it will take!

So in the famous words of another under supported South Aussie "C'MON"

GO YOU BLOODS

OUCH!

Being a Port fan imagine if your club had the same record as WAFC over the last 30 years.

I think what we have had to endure is the "OUCH" more than my statement.

IMO there are some really good people trying really hard down at WAFC and we need to support them as much as we can and there is no reason WAFC cant do a CDFC dominance of a decade. They didn't do it over night and neither will we, which is hard to remember in the heat of a bad loss at times.

WE are ALL guilty of giving our teams more stick than they deserve on occasions so come on you closet Bloods supporters get out there and give 'em curry on Sunday....ImageImage

Any interest from Westies in a straight swap? You guys get Pyman and we get the Weed? At least the Weed might toughen the Panthers up somewhat!

I only hope some of the "sack the Coach" Westies would read this thread.
