Friday Night Cracker!!

Postby MST » Tue Jun 19, 2007 10:39 am

This weeks 'Rivalry Round' contest between Norwood and Sturt has all the makings of a classic SANFL match.

Both sides have improved markedly in 2007 and are playing some exciting, passionate footy.

Will the 'Legs continue their recent dominance over their eastern suburb rivals, or will the Sturt machine break the mini-hoodoo?

A game deserving of 8,000 plus.

Absolutely MST. I'd say the blues will go in as underdogs this week. Norwood and Sturt, clearly the form teams of the comp at the moment, should be a belter this week. The legs dominance over us recently has been annoying. Many times we could have got up but for them to deflate our spirits. Its time bluebaggers!!!

Key matchups anyone? Who will stand chambo? Who will win the midfield? Who will kick the goals for the legs? (who is their ff anyway)....very interested to get the many legs fans opinions on this as well as the blues fans!!

Cant wait for it and Ill be up early Friday morn on the dot to listen.

go you double blues!!!!

Huge game this one. Not only have Norwood thwarted us in key matches of recent years, they are also on a roll with wins in their last 4 matches over the Eagles, Glenelg, Port and West. With that they also carry the prestige of being the last side to defeat Glenelg who have since gone on to defeat the rampaging Roosters and accomplish a complete demolition job over West Adelaide. Norwood are also coming in off the bye and should be fresh for what will surely be a tough hit out. The Blues on the other hand have a 7-3 record which includes the proud scalp of the Bulldogs, but every other win has been over a side in the bottom four. Except for the South game, Sturt's wins have all been fairly close, with their opponents being in with a chance up till at least midway in the final quarter, meaning that even against the bottom sides, victory for the Blues has been a struggle.
Both sides have improved a lot this year, if the Redlegs get up in this one they will have the challenge of the Dogs coming up soon to establish just where they are at, and perhaps earn the title of a top three side. Sturt desperately need this victory to establish some credibilty in that top 2 spot they have held for the past three weeks, and go some way to reversing the fact that the three sides snapping at our heels have all beaten us the last time we played.
As MST says, should be an absolute cracker. Norwood ahve built a reputation for running their games out in recent times, and Sturt have won every close encounter this year. If it is close going into the final quarter, then the final 25 odd minutes should be amonst the most intense to be played in any type of footy this year. I am going for Sturt by about a kick.
GO YOU BLUES!!!!
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Cant wait for Friday. One things for sure and that is that both sides will respect their opponent and on form I cant pick the winner. Last time we played the Blues it was wet and we killed them in the conditions. This Friday is forecast to be cold and dry and will be a true indication of where both sides are. Sturt have accounted for the Doggies and Norwood have beaten the Eagles in the last couple of weeks. This game should draw a big crowd and show SANFL footy at its best. CARNALEGS!

There has not been enough Friday matches this year, thanks to Adelaide Oval not being available. It's these types of matches which draw the big crowds. No matter what time of the year it is played, there will always a bigger crowd on a Friday night than Saturday or Sunday. I'd be very disappionted if the crowd is under 6,000, and hopefully should be near 7,500 to 8,000.

That Sturt legends team must have about 412 wooden spoons between them.

Interesting that the legends teams (from all clubs in all forms) seem to be getting younger. Or I am getting older. Probably the latter.

They are always good entertainment value though. Well done to the clubs for participating.
