SAFooty Down Time & Forums Being Locked 22/6/07

Postby Wedgie » Fri Jun 22, 2007 9:52 am

We've done it again, despite going to new software and "throttling" our webspace we've blown up the server!!
This time we are moving to new webspace that is more reliable and can handle the extra stress of this site, as a temporary measure we will be disabling some of the forums as a temporary measure until we move to the new space so for the time being the entire site isn't brought down.
Apologies to users of those forums we bring down but we expect to get the site back up and running the way it was withing a day or two.
We thought it best to run a "skeleton" site with just some forums open whilst we move the site to new webspace that can accomodate that.
We've also set the forum back so that guests and "bots" can't view this site for the time being.
These measures should ensure we keep a reliable service going until we change webspace.
Rest assured we're looking at better webspace that may involve more cost so things such as advertisements/donations/etc may need to be looked at depending on the costs incurred but that wont be happening until a latter time.
Temporary downtime and problems may be experience over the next day or two but rest assure myself and Dissident will be working on this just about 24/7 until its fully working again.
Cheers,
Wedgie.

Hats off to all at SA Footy who provide the opportunity for SANFL die hards to discuss the happenings in the league. If it was left to the general media I wouldn't know what the hell was really going on...

But will it make the price of beer go up? :?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

*** UPDATE ***

New webspace has been purchased, its a lot more expensive (for those tech heads out there its a VPS), its now in Australia as opposed to the other side of the world which will quicken things up by .25 of a second. Myself and the mods will absorb the initial cost as our sponsorship with the First Bounce wont cover it but we may need to add discreet ads or ask for donations down the track.

The site will come down for an hour or two over the next few days to move it but once its moved we should have quicker and more reliable service and all forums will be unlocked.

Thanks for your patience.

Huge thank you to you, Wedgie, and Diss and all the others involved in keeping this very very precious service alive. :D :D

If by 'absorb the initial cost' you mean that you guys will be dipping into your own pockets then I think it is only fair that you tell us how much the cost is and the forum should have a whip round or similar. :)

Regards
JAS

And adding more to this ...

Please use safootycentral.com rather than safooty.net - as the.net is being moved and might not load.

I'd also like to add my thanks to Diss and point out to everyone that he's the brains behind the operation.
My involvement besides being stressed has gone as far as paying for the new site with my credit card.
Thank you Diss!!! :D

Anyway back to the topic at hand, Diss has got a "mirror" version of this site set up on the new space and its working a treat, very quick and reliable.
He'll be switching this site over to the new on in the next 24 hours I'd imagine so there may be some small down time.
Hopefully when I get home tomorrow it will be all working and I can "unlock" the forums that are currently locked and SAFooty will be full steam ahead!
