We have a few places we're looking at that do the whole thing, but after attending an awesome wedding in Streaky Bay over the weekend that was done differently, we're now looking into getting a venue, caterer, etc separately.
The only problem is we can't find anywhere that looks the way the missus wants that isn't a winery or a function centre that only does the full deal.
Does anyone know of anywhere that is rustic, where we could organise our own catering, bar, band, etc?
Cheers
A lot of options depend on how many people you're intending to have, and whether its cocktail style or sit down. This seemed to dictate lots of our options for a venue. You can organise your own band almost anywhere, the grog and the catering can be more of an issue.
Al-Ru Farm may be one to try, not a winery but rustic still.

Gee, I'm glad I wasn't the only one to go thru this whole planning experience and not enjoy it!
We looked at Sunnybrae & Al-ru (thats the one at One Tree Hill right?), but we weren't happy with having to use the terms of the drinks/cocktail food package. We also looked at a winery (at Tanunda maybe) that we decided on, rang up to book two weeks later, only to find out that the owners had changed and they no longer did weddings...
We ended up just having it in her parents back yard, which was pretty awesome and we did all the alcohol, food, set up, etc.
I thought I heard that Al-ru had some financial issues? I thought I saw a Today Tonight promotion along these lines???

Yeah Longview was our first choice too. The drinks package was a bit of an issue. They claimed they dont so consumption, until I said we wouldn't use them if it was a mandatory charge, even for people not drinking. Within 5 minutes I had a glossy consumption price list. They're still on the list. The place is pretty good.

Thats my kind of wedding. My missus knows where to get the cheap dresses, so it should keep the cost down. The venue and foods whats gonna cost the most. Longview I think was $9-$10k...
