He originally only got 5 seasons, but laughed when the commissioner told him, so they threw an extra year on...

This is correct FC, apparently he was also very smug during the whole hearing and found it all quite funny. No Smithfield official was there with him, he was there by himself with a friend.

disapointing that no one from the club was there to help the kid!!!!!!
does anyone know if the umpire recieved a repremand or anything for retaliating or provoking the kid???

Nothing happened to the umpire as nothing could be proved he did anything wrong.

The kid should have never gone up to the umpire after the game in the first place.
we have only heard rumours from teammates point of views.
umpires should never ever be touched.
smithfield have a bad record in under 18s already.
100 games sounds like he got off well in this situation.

Just a reminder that such a situation, more so the discussion following on from such can very quickly crooss the line in regards to how this site, yourselves and the person/club involved are looked upon.

So far so good,I would just like to reinforce the fact this is a touchy subject that should be treated with much caution, play on.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

Although Smithfield has been targeted in this particular situation, unfortunately the occurance of Umpires interfering with players at Junior (and i include 17s and 18s in that category).

The same thing happened at one of our games a couple of weeks ago, a mellee broke out and the umpire stepped in and was actually manhandling players to stop it.

These umps are dealing with hormonal 16 and 17yr olds, a kids first reaction when their manhandled is to push away or fight back. NEMJFA needs to tell the umps need they cant touch the players and thats that..
Don't play games with a girl who can play 'em better...

spot on there FC
if players are being dragged out by umpires or grabbed by an umpire
they need to understand they may get hit or pushed
its not right but its just how a teenager is going to react!!!!

IF the ump did throw a punch and the player acted in self defence the club should have aranged witness and advocate for the player.if it's just thuggery then he should be band for life and take up boxing.violance in fooy can't be tolerated footy is a full contact sport and hard at the ball is a special ability and players who have to resort to violance dont usally last long in he game
