As I once said to Alexander Downer, face to face, we made a fundamental mistake, in 1901 [besides Federation] when we agreed to pay our Politicians - who had all been unpaid volunteers before that.

I think being an MP should be like jury duty - you have to take your turn and you get compensated only for your lost wages.

No the states get the extra, we get 10% less - it's a form of governmental "bobbitting".

Would have thought it would be a variable tax. Sometimes you pay more, sometimes you get a refund, kinda goes up and down so to speak.

I guess on that basis and depending on how it's measured, every male would be paying more tax than they need to

Ice cube down the undies before you front up to the tax audit! And don't glance at the videos on all round the room.

Gotta give my 2bobs here sorry lads!

I actually think that pollies should be paid a lot more to attract decent talent to manage the biggest business in Australia. Just think, the PM gets a $250,000 wages plus a stack of benefits, but he average wage of the executive directors of the Macquarie Bank is just over $20.3 MILLION   Plus they get a stack of shares to go with it.

Lets face it, what would you rather do?

Sure the Mac Bank is a massive conglomerate with complex business systems and massive deals being done, requiring expert analysis every day. But running the goverment is the whole country.

To put it in context, if the Mac Bank directors cock up a few key deals and the bank goes balls up, shareholders will lose their money, a few people lose their jobs and the stock market may take a beating for a while. If the government cock up a few key deals and sping the economy into a major recession (it's pretty hard to bankrupt a first-world, developed economy), EVERYONE cops it in the balls, as we are all like shareholders in this massive conglomerate called Australia.

Sorry for the faggy serious post, but I'd rather have the best of the best (backstabbing) management running Aus than just the best of the best backstabbers!

And for the record, even if there was videos around that measurement room in the tax office, they'd only be getting a few extra cents out of me! :( :( :(
