In 1993 some FIFA Youth World Cup games were played at Hindmarsh. Amongst the Norwegian squad was a kid caled Petr Rudi (who later went on to play with Sheffield Wednesday). Througout the three games the Norwegians played, everytime he was passed the ball the crowd would go "RUUUUDIIII", just as they did at SANFL games.

The poor lad had no idea why he was being treated in such a way, but it spurred him on and he played quite well.

In their final game he was substituted with about 10 minutes remaining and as he left the pitch he got a huge cheer. He applauded the crowd for their support and entered the tunnel to a final "RUUUUUUDIIIII" cheer.

One of my favourite sporting memories...

Played cricket in the PDCA apparently, and at Parafield Gardens smashed a six over the railway line. Massive hit if it's true since I've seen some big hits there not even go close to beating the fence he would have had to have clobbered the ball over to get there.

I played cricket against rudi only once....and that was enough. They went into bat first and he opened. 9.5 overs later he had his ton up, we finally got him out in the 15th over.....for 165....
i still cant believe it even now, but i'll tell that story until the day i die. by the way i was the only bowler to bowl a complete over at him and they only got three singles.... but i still got smashed all over the park in my 5 overs and went for 60 runs... one of his sixes off me landed right in the middle of my mates car, you could even see the seam mark from the ball, and because i was a panel beater at the time he made me fix it.......ah memories...if only he had played for the bays..
