Massive backward step for any club from the SAAFL to join the SFL. Especially a side like Edwardstown.

I would think from A1 to SFL would be a huge difference....why would they??

Going to SFL would be a quick fix and long term be a massive mistake. My mail is that the club are frustarted with SAAFL management, the money they pay to SAAFL and get liitle from it. Their view is that the SAAFL admin look after a set group of teams and brush off the rest of the teams???

Agree...SAAFL administration very poor...beyond belief really. I can understand wanting to get out. SAFA Admin was so much better, oh how we long for a return to those days.

Kookas just read some of your posts and it all makes sence. As to Kenilworth being the same standard as Morphy Parks don't kid your self...I saw Morphy Parks earlier against Hackham and Kenilworth would account of Morphy Parks in both A's/B's.Kenilworth have not disgraced them selves this year and lost 90% of their games by under 3 kicks, by far underacheived though.Kenilworth will never join the SFL,especially when it is the second oldest SAAFL club in the league.......

I agree, we would never move to the competition, more value in the SAAFL.

I hear Edwardstown have a big recruit in Chris Dawson coming down to play with Zach Grantham.
Can anyone confirm this?

what sort of trophie do you get for playing div 5 and being the second oldest team in the saafl. Dosn't matter if you change leagues, the main objective is to make sure your club dosn't fold.

The last thing we are worrying about it folding mate.7 Junior sides and 3 senior sides with the B's and C's firmly in the top 5.And as for the other comment dont bag clubs who are proud of their heritage and what they have acheived in it.Tradition is a major factor in a football club and it also brings up moral values.Your right it gives no trophy but what it does bring is respect,a thing every club fights for and that is not won over night.......

Also join the SFL to avoid the risk of folding, what the............??

Indeed.

A club plays sport as an extension of the local community. They may play in the AFL, SANFL, in the city or in the most outback areas of the bush, an amateur side in Division 1 or Division 7, be cash-rich or stinking stoney broke.

Most importantly though is the fact that they are a club, people united together in representing themselves and the community. I couldn't give a toss whether the club I supported was flying high in Division 1 or mid-table in the lower rungs. Teams are usually where they are because that's the level they are suited to on the field.

It's all about hope, belief, togetherness, a few drinks and a few laughs and the hope of success. If we didn't have these things, no one wouldn't have a go and there wouldn't be a game!

Used to play for Roopena in Whyalla, was training with norwood to sneak into their reserves side last year til he busted his knee in a trial game.
Has had the reconstruction now.
Should be good to go.

I'd think Kenilworth would only move to the SFL if they wanted to fold...

As I've said before, it's not about Division 1 ... it's about being there. So many clubs nation-wide have overspent in an unsustainable manner and have crashed and burnt or have spent up to 10 years recovering very slowly.

If Kenilworth have lived by their means over the years to the extent that they can proudly claim to be the second oldest club affiliated to the SAAFL, then that is great for them and the people who follow them.

If people are a part of a club where a benefactor happily dishes off $50,000 their way each year (the leading clubs in metro Melbourne enjoy this privilege) good for them - the benefactor enjoys giving (and getting a bit of a profile) and the club spends it how they want ... usually on players for a tilt at D1 success or D2 success with the hope of going to the top level.

Nobody should denigrate a club for where they are, but my real issue instead would be with what clubs do.

Kenilworth have been in SAAFL D1 and they have also won 2 SAAFL D1 flags.Fair enough they were both prior to WW2 but still in the books.Proud history and there is nothing better when you cop some lip from some scrubber club and you ask them how many D1 (The best competition outside of the SANFL in S.A) flags they have won and they have no come back. Its a proud history of a proud club (Only 12-13 clubs in SAAFL history have won as many or more flags in D1 and some of those clubs have folded). The main point is there is no way in hell Kenilworth will EVER join the SFL and to be honest there is no legitimate reason why they should

No one is doubting Kenilworth has a proud history. The only reason I asked is that I reckon they would be a good club for the SFL if they were interested in joining. If they are happy in the SAAFL good luck to them in climbing the ladder and pushing up the Divisions.
