Yes I was there. Marvellous years too.
And yes I am only 37 but hey, if I can help keep this site running then making a time machine is a piece of cake.

Seriously though, Ive read and re-read the Farmer files many times, they were based on the scrapbooks he kept during his career and having seen them close up I can tell you that you'll never see a more amazing historical accurate account of a period of SANFL Footy.
One of the best SANFL reads ever.

There's pics of the Original scrapbooks at the following link, they have to be seen to be believed:

I reckon :prayer: John Fidge :prayer: also cracked the ton in 1990, did he not? I don't recall anyone running out to pat him on the arse though...

We were incapable of running onto the ground for Grenville's 100th at Footy Park in 83. There was an army of redcoats in front of the cheer squad.
Some  people ran onto Prospect in the last round of 87 when John Roberts got his 100th.

I've often seen him credited has having kicked 124 goals in 1990, but when I was compiling the week by week goals for Hodges and Jakovich, I never saw Fidge as that many - more like 80 the Advertiser had him on at the end of the minor round.

The 1990 Grand Final Budget has him listed as 86 goals before that match.

Pretty sure Fidge's 124 includes the pre season of that year(Escort Cup?). No idea why, bit like Rick Davies according to the Sturt Honor Board kicked 102 goals in 1984, he didn't, he only kicked 80 odd in the real season.

Couldn't find my later copies of the Footy Times last night but by July (Vol 15 # 17 (Rd 14)) Hodges was on 68, Fidge 58, Jakovich 57....Fidge got goals early (Torrens and South) had a quiet middle patch then cam home with a wet sail. IIRC he got the 100 in the last or 2nd last minor rd game (possibly when we thrashed Sturt by about 20 goals at Brighton Rd in Hodgy's last game - that got the publicity not John's 100 sausage rolls....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The way it was' 90.

Goalkickers shown on the screen after minor round.

S.Hodges(PA) 127
A.Jakovich(W) 101
J.Fidge(GL) 74
D.Jarman(NA) 54
R.Mandemaker(CD) 52

...after some dribble from narrator Keith Conlon about Hodges and Jakovich, he says this "Injury probably prevented Glenelg's John Fidge from being the 3rd player this season to kick 100 goals", also just put in the 1990 Grand Final, Fidge takes a mark about 6 minutes into the match and written on the screen Games: 28 Goals: 86
