Hooray - I've been waiting since this topic first surfaced to mention the crap name but I didn't want to give anymore ammo to the anti-North crusade led by topsy so I held back (but it's been killing me!) until someone else mentioned it.

Were you hoping for Grand North East?

Funny you should say that because more than a few people I have spoken to over time incouding some Nwd people hinted that could be a possible name so I wouldn't have been suprised!

I have since thought about the name they have given it and although I personally don't like it - the combo is a good play on words but it still sounds like a weather forecast to warn those fishing buffs the expected wind direction!

P.S. Grand Central isn't exactly original is it like Grand North - again a play on words re locality as much as anything but that's a done to death topic!

having a go at a pokie parlour 1 hr later than Norths is pretty ordinary BPBRBRNDFN.

Good luck to the 'legs.

Maybe so but if you read it my comment in full you will see that it is a crack at the Govt. as much as Nwd who are playing by the allowable rules and good luck to them. Sorry if my opinion doesn't sit well with you so tough titties!

You may have been having a go at the Govt but you were having a go at NFC also.

By calling Norwood desperate you agree North are desperate also by having their pokie venues open the maximum hours possible on certain days?

The NFC are running a business here so why not maximise profits from day 1.

That is the bottom line, I defy anyone to point out any entity that wouldn't be looking to maximise their return on investment

Is 8am going to be their usual opening time is it an early start in order to try to get the staff used to operating procedures and the venue?
Whatever time, its an unfortunate fact that pokies are here to stay and now form the financial backbone of most sanfl clubs - I personally would have preferred only community (sporting, ethnic based etc) clubs to get pokies as at least their constitutions state that all profits must be ploughed back into the very club or associated body they were derived from.
At least it should mean that Norwood have a solid basis off field that may enable them to compete on field a little more effectively. It will never replace talent but it may help with fostering juniors and other forms of talent recognition.

Don't know about that. I reckon eighteen pokie machines, power cords trailing in their wake, could have got closer than 158 points last weekend.

They'd certainly have been quicker around the field.

ba boom tish.

I didn't go due to amateur league commitments with uni, but what was happened since the eagles game in which people were prepared to run and harass? the sturt game was awful with us being found out by a team hard at the ball and willing to place pressure.
I know centrals are good but that much better?

yeah i dont know what the deal with that is, its what their license says, but i cant really understand why.
at a guess i would say its becouse its a 24 hour place and there are probably restrictions on pokies being open 24 hours, so they figured 11am-5pm is the best time to have it closed up, due to the late/early times some overseas sporting matches are on it probably just works out better for them.

Yeah I think with so many other pokies around them they thought they'd capture the shift workers and from what I heard a few do pop in there.

i know after 5am you can only drink in the Rosemont if you work in hospitality, so everyone else inside is only on the pokies, being 24 hour though the pokies room is pretty busy saturday/sunday mornings.
