CDFC again moves junior games

Postby Dogwatcher » Thu Jul 05, 2007 4:34 pm

Kris is going to have to increase his security measures to improve Elizabeth Oval.

Junior games programmed there for this weekend have been forced to move again. Rain over last two days looks to have caused problems.

Or was it the grass was burnt after the Bulldogs' scorching performance last weekend?

Maybe they could ask Ian Callinan for a loan to help fix the drainage out there?

And after Norwoods players stood still, so as not to chew up the turf last week, I thought it would come up OK.

You'd think that with that (and the inclement weather) in mind, it would have been wiser by the SANFL to move the underage games to Max Basheer again. Unless there's already matches on there that day. If it continues to piss down for the next day, the underage games will chop up Glenelg Oval to a horrible extent ahead of the league match.

Adelaide Oval is being prepared with Winter Green Couch Grass, if the clubs like it, it might be an idea to oversow the suburban grounds with it, the bonus being that it is stands up well in winter conditions unlike other types of grasses which are better used in Spring or Summer.

As for a back up venue, Thebarton is a good option being centrally located, yet what a great opportunity to send the juniors up to the home clubs country zone to play before the local amatuer league game, that way giving the locals a first up chance to see how their lads are doing in the SANFL juniors.

Apparently the rain late in the week just sat on the surface. The drainage is just useless.

Current thoughts are that a complete resurface will be undertaken in the off-season.

Depends entirely on the weather now Thiele. No one will set foot on it prior to then, but any decent rain before then and it will definitely be moved.

I must have a longer memory than most Sturt supporters as to this day I can still remember clearly the amount of Dogs fans that used to pay out Unley Oval as a slop and unacceptable SANFL venue!
