If anyone here has experiences with catching buses to Melbourne and what they were like?

I'm thinking about going over the weekend and will probably buy the coach tickets tomorrow but never done it before.

Love getting the bus over. The one I catch a couple of times a year leaves Adelaide at 8pm, gets to Melbourne at about 6:30am, stopping of at Tintinara at about 10:30pm and Ararat at about 4am.

About $120 return, worst part of the trip is the crappy movie they put on after you go through Mt Barker.

Why would you catch a bus when you can fly for roughly the same price if you keep an eye on airline prices?
Sometimes it would be cheaper.

If you fly Thursday and Monday it is the same price. Only a Friday flight not booked in advance costs you

I'm catching the V-Line coach over to Bendigo then connecting V-Line train to Melbourne and then Firefly coach back from Melbourne to Adelaide.

FWIW, it turned out the coach over and back is about one third the price of plane tickets. Plane tickets tend to be a lot cheaper mid-week but go right up on Fri-Sun and it was less than 7 days notice not like buying cheap flights on special months in advance.
