Is it just me or do others think the program is hard to follow?

Next week we have our 3rd and final bye.
WWTFC has 8 straight games to the end of the minor round.
Some clubs though have to have 2 byes during this time as at the moment they've only had the one bye (Centrals and Port)

or doesn't it matter?

Does seem a little odd that by round 15 we have all our byes over. Sturt has 2 byes as Jimmy points out within a month and some clubs by round 15 have only had one bye.

I wouldnt want to try do work out the program but would think byes would be spread out a little more - but dont know if it really matters anyway

We played Norwood yesterday.
We play Port and Sturt in our next two games and then guess who we play again?
That's right Norwood!!
WTF?

The exact thing happened in 1999 - byes in Rounds 3, 9 and 15.

It's not a new thing to play a team a few rounds from each other. North and Norwood played in Round 18 1974, then again in Round 21. In the same rounds, West and Torrens played each other and so did Glenelg and Sturt. In Rounds 18 and 20 1978, Woodville and Torrens played each other.

Chin up Col - Centrals had the final 8 in succession in 2000 (there might even be another one since!) - positive was being match hardened and ready for finals when we met Port and the Iggles in the QF and 2SF of 2000 - our reward was the bye on PF weekend, much needed after 10 in a row.

Flipside is what you guys might also experience - we lost Scott Lee in the West game in Round 22, and he never quite got the hammy back in shape before the GF. Slade replaced him, rest is history...

Bring in a tenth team or has been suggested this week in the media- cull Port, problem solved, no more byes. With 8 teams we could have a 21 round season were everyone plays each other 3 times, one each at home/away and one neutral game at Adelaide.

Makes it interesting in race for the five as Port only have 7 games to play while rest have 8.

The SANFL draw this year is crazy - I could put together a much more even, fair draw in a couple hours. It isn't hard at all if you have some basic maths/stats/programming knowledge.

I'm thinking about officially approaching the SANFL to offer to do next year's draw for them...

The SANFL Draw is stupid what it should be is everyone plays each other twice home and away including byes. 18 rounds is enough no more or less.

The only way to make it follow any sort of pattern is to have an even number of teams in the comp, or change the number of rounds to 18 or 27.

I think the reason that the draw is done like this is to suit clubs requests to play at venues or certain clubs in certain rounds. It's only a guess, because that's the only thing that can actually have some sense into why it is programmed that way.

And 18 matches for a team in a season is too short.

I agree, except its only 16 matches and 2 byes.

You would need a decent preseason cup, but I for one dont bother going to those.

Worse things have happened, we could have the AFL do the draw for us......
