bulldogproud2 wrote:Certainly a bit of controversy with team selections in the Adelaide versus West Torrens A Grade match. Trent Lawford was ruled out by SACA for the first day's play but played the second, replacing Vince Valente. Under SACA's by-laws, Lawford was required to be named on the official team sheet as a replacement player for Vince Valente. This did not occur. As such, Lawford should only have been allowed to replace a bowler as the by-laws state 'like-for-like' replacements. As Vince Valente is not a bowler, this went against the by-laws.
In the end, Adelaide won by 17 runs, with Lawford contributing 29 of these.
Will be interesting to see if SACA have the intestinal fortitude to act on this in the coming week.
Cheers

I think it's fine. Lawford has an A Grade double century to his name, at this level he's an allrounder. He bats in their top six.
Injured state squad players coming in halfway through a game has always happened and will always happen.
Also, the permit Adelaide received would have been for Lawford to come in for Valente, not just to play.

There can be no question that Lawford is more a bowler than a batsman and is selected in the State team as such. No problems re him being allowed to play on the second day, but the player he was replacing on the second day should have been named on the team sheet as such and, for all intents and purposes, should have been a bowler, or at least a bowling all-rounder. I don't think that Vince Valente has done much bowling this year. Yes, a permit was allowed for Lawford to play on the second day, but surely Valente was the wrong player to be replaced.
Btw, will be interesting to see from now on if all players who are out injured or for personal reasons for the first day of games are allowed to play on the second. Lawford was not coming back from State duty so it pretty much opens the road for any player to only play half a match.
As for the game being over on Day One, I would not be confident at 7/200 chasing 212 of guaranteeing a win!!
Cheers

Maybe my memory is crash hot, but this is actually the first time I can ever recall an injured player being allowed to play on the second day, having missed the first. Yes, State players come into teams if they have a State duty on the first day but are available on the second. However, as stated before, this is the first time in my recollection that a player has actually been ruled unfit for day one but been allowed to play on day two.
Re qualification as a batsman, rules appear to have been more tightly applied in the past. Tim Neilsen, despite having on numerous occasions won the Batting Aggregate was never allowed to be replaced by a batsman, always a keeper only. Also, Ben Higgins, despite having won the bowling award on numerous occasions, was never allowed to be replaced by a bowler, only a batsman.
Cheers

Surely Raphael will go into the night as the red hot favorite. Almost 800 runs at 60. Generally he does well Adelaide wins.

Have no issue with state players returning mid game provided they were injured playing for SACA. As I said Trent desperately wanted to play both weeks but failed the fitness test for week 1.
This sort of stuff is always going to happen and Adelaide were on the other side of the coin last year v TTG. Had them 8 down chasing 130 or less still needing plenty and Travis Head subbed in as the not out batsman overnight (forget who was slashed) he got them over the line.
*SACA selectors please feel free to leave Shrek, Fud and Raph behind from this week's trip to Brisbane so we are full strength

Your wish Heater has not come true!!
Both Valente and Lawford in the 12 to play QLD, but you do keep Raf!
Barnes was reported on the weekend too, that would be massive loss now if he got suspended with the other two out.
Go Prospect, lol!!
