Viduka scored in the last game dogwatcher...our only goal. This time he bettered it with 2. Three for the tournament thus far...

Cahill and Kewell both made a big difference when they came on. I was surprised about the Aloisi sub off but it turned out aok! W were under a lot of pressure for most of the 2nd half and played very deep in defence..I dont like it. Milligan was good. I think Arnold held his composure this time and made some proper changes when required. That said, I'm not sure he can be saved unless we make the semis at least...

Why we sat on our heels while the Thaiwanese peppered our goals i dunno, we were lucky to record that sort of landslide result.

Anyone who wasn't fortunate enough to view the game would think we manhandled our opponents, which really couldn't be further from the truth.

It was apparent from the get go that the boys had arrived much sharper than any of the previous games ... If our tournament was over today it would not have been as a result of last nights effort.

Thought all the younger lads were excellent, particularly Milligan, Carney and of course Beauchamp were also good ... Alo looked lively, but most importantly the endeavour and workrate were there for the first time inthe comp.

Good teams hang tough when their opponents are all over them (as the Thai's were for a good 20 mins last night) which makes the performance even more satisfying, but the final scoreline was harsh on our vanquished opponenets.

Agree that Arnie had a good game too.

And now we live to fight another day, will be a tough one against the Jap's who I reckon are always vulnerable at the back, so it probably comes down to how good a job we can do at keeping them out.

Thoughts on last nights game....
Well at last we put a half decent effort on the park...
I'm only saying half decent as I think, the defensive efforts last night were alot
better than previous games  . BUT the ball going forward seemed to take a
eternity in getting it in.
There were alot of times where Australia had a man out wide only for a bit on
indicision and vision failed to put the ball out...
As we saw in the late stage of the second half, the three goals scored, the ball
was played down the flanks, with speed, which allowed Viduka to lose a man
and score....
His second goal, with that tight turn, and hold off was pure class. If he gets the ball
to him QUICKLY and the defence is held off then he will score. Give the defence a chance
man up two on one and it's hard...
I though Milligan, Beauchamp and Carney all aquitted themselves very well down back, apart
from leaving the flanks open a touch too much. Will need to get this covered better against Japan.
Neill may struggle to start against Japan, as I'm sure Arnold will want to keep the defence sound.
I'd start with the same side as tonight, maybe bring Cahill (Alosis off) on BEFORE Kewell, say at start second half,
unleash Harry at 60 mins (Bresciano off), Neill at 75 mins (Wilkshire off).
The Aussies soaked up the pressure well last night and it was good to see Viduka on the goal line defending
as well!!

Vietnam shouldn't pose a problem, short flight, weather should be same as Bangkok, maybe a little cooler in the
evening..so if they play a bit better than last night then we are a show....

I just hope for Japan's sake they study the Aus v Thailand game.
Don't do what Thailand do.
When Australia go on the defensive like they did for the middle 60 minutes of the game, make sure you get a freakin goal before they put their GOOD players on.

Japan were second faves at the start of this tourney.
Many of their players have European experience.
We beat them thanks to Timmy Cahill in the first round of the WC, but IIRC our previous record against them before that wasn't sensational.

You should try following them like I do - bloody frustrating:(

Knisorbo is not a central defender at Leicester (save for the odd one or two games) and that's why he struggles playing in that role in the National Team plus he hasn't played that many times for his country.

Leicester have produced 2 of the BEST EVER 'keepers in Banks and Shilton don't forget.

Along with Lineker, Frank's Worthington and McLintock.

Not bad players there.

Waddington, Wellar...........................70's were a great side.

BPBRB, I used to follow Leicester when I was in Oz, then when I came back here we lived so far away that I decided to follow a club a bit more local.

They also have to look at the Aus v Japan game from the WC last year so that what happened there doesn't happen in this game.

Yep used to be a solid club in the 70's and have struggled since then going up and down like a bride's nightie between the Premier and the CCCs. Some very good years under Matin O'Neill but we have struggled since he left. Also never been able to hang onto the superstars like Linekar and co over the years due to the bigger spending other clubs :(

P.S. It's Wallington and he was a great keeper too.
