North's Heritage Top 2007

Postby Wedgie » Tue Jul 17, 2007 9:41 pm

We'll be wearing this against the Bays later this year at Prossie, we're doing the smart thing by having our reunion the night before the game so the Bays cant spoil our party like we spoilt their's last year!
Hopefully the 87 Bays rock up and not the 85 or 86 version!
Top on the left is a supporters polo, they're also making rugby tops for the supporters similar to a year or 2 ago.
I don't like ithe candy stripes at all but a lot do.
Great to see no sponsor on it though.

Not that they need one, but its a very good alternative jumper.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Once every 10 years or so is plenty for the lolly pop guernsey, the 1930's Red V on White would make a great alternative guernsey, but like you say, North don't need one as they don't clash with anyone.

Looks great, hope the bays do something simular soon as well, eg- '34 jumper. I was chatting to a few board members and they are thinking about the possibility of using a heritage jumper a few times a year.

How many Guernsey's have the Bay's had? The one they wore against North (2004??) was a pretty good looking top, better than the sash IMHO.
Surely if they used it a few times a year it would become a alternative guernsey, not a heritage guernsey.

Good to see the Bays getting into the theme of things by wearing their '87 top too

... just as long as they play like the '86 team 8)

Without dragging out Pride Of The Bay to check:

- first guernsey was black with a gold hoop.
- replaced early on with the gold and black vee
- changed to the sash in the late forties?
- wore black with a gold yoke for a year (or two?) in the sixties

On top of this I reckon they wore a black, gold and red combination before being admitted to league ranks.

FWIW I love the sash, but the gold guernsey is indeed a grand design. I wouldn't object to seeing it dragged out once a year.

We've basically had 4 guernseys (according to The Pride of the Bay)

our first one was similar to the other guernseys of the era:
Black with a gold hoop band around the midriff (like Sturt and North's recent heritage guernseys)
In the mid to late 20s until 1949 we wore gold guernsey with a black - our heritage top from 2003.
In 1949 we adopted the Richmond guernsey gold sash all the way around.
For a short period in the 60s it was a Melbourne style guernsey Black with a gold yoke
1967 the king arrived and we we adopted our current guernsey Black with a gold sash.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
