Hypothetical 2007 SANFL State Team

Postby Aerie » Wed Jul 18, 2007 9:46 pm

If there was to be a State game in a couple of weeks, who would be playing, purely based on form this year and not on past reputations. AFL listed players NOT to be included.

Perhaps it would be easier to nominate some players from your club who you think would be worthy of consideration and we can create a short list and go from there. Someone like bayman who has seen a lot of games could be a good judge for competing spots.

In order, I'd nominate the following from the Eagles:
Lindsay - ruck
Powell - on ball/back flank
Grocke - CHF
Treeby - wing
Symmons - forward flank
Jarrad - wing

Not to be considered because of long term injury would be McKenzie, but he had a great start to the year for the first 10 rounds or so.

Allan's not eligible (1st year out of the VFL) but Alleway would be a walk up for CHF.
I think O'Hara would be at least the 2nd ruckman too, hasn't been beaten this year.
Ryswyk if fit and Bamford would get a look in.

I was tempted to also put Lawry, Grima and Havelberg into the squad but I'd play Chambers ahead of Havelberg.

The only one from the Bloods I would add would be McCormick

Lenny Clark gets his hands to a lot of ball but is still working on his around the ground.

Dragacevic (or however you spell it) has had a solid season amongst a pile of jelly but dunno if good enough to get state honors??

Are we able to agree on any positions 100%? I'd happily slot Schell into CHB, Alleway CHF and Chambers FF. If we allow interstate first year players Callinan would slot in on the ball or forward lines somewhere.

I'd put Grima in for a full back nomination (given no 1 year qualification rule). Been fantastic this year. Only had his colours lowered by Chambers, but given the delivery that day Silvagni wouldn't have been able to do much more than Grima did!
