The costs, the heartache and uncertainty they've faced in the last few years all traces back to the program he wanted to implement. The fact the club let him is ridiculous but the things the players have said about Dank are just unbelievable. And this bloke was operating openly under Hird's nose and with his apparent blessing. To think they not only brought him back to drag this out longer, while he fought the legal battle and got paid handsomely is unfathomable. Whatever happens now, Essendon can FINALLY move on. Whether or not the WADA action leads to further penalties, this is the moment the club will say they started to claw back some respectability.
I don't think they had a leg to stand on, probably couldn't afford to pay him out.
I think the AFL have to step in and help them out, pay out his contract and get him away from the game/club, this has gone on far too long and we'll still be discussing it in 12 months time if something isn't done about it.
