For Goldstein more than any other player, it's just how well (or not) noticed a non-midfielder can be, by the umps.

He's never polled more than 7 votes in a year.

That would push for top 10. I'd be prepared to put a redback on it.

That's my line of thinking, they aren't a team with high possession players in it.

Will certainly work in his favour, when the white maggotts look at the stats sheets after the game they might give him the big votes if the highest midfielder only has 25 to 30 possesions.
Who do you think will get most votes for north without goldy? Surely not Petrie

No, certainly not Petrie. Dal Santo, Harvey, Ziebell and Higgins will be the ones who turn a 3 into a two for him or a 2 into a 1.

Bernie tagged a fair bit, I reckon that may hurt him, he did have some very high stat days and looked magnificent.

I wouldn't think so, pretty much from what I have seen (albeit at a far lower level) the umps go into their rooms at the end of the game and as they are cooling down, having a drink etc they discuss best players, and votes. Decisions made before any stats would be available. At this level I would suggest the umps room would be impervious to outsiders bringing that type of information in to them....

I heard that they are privvy to the stats.

When I umpire, we usually get together at the breaks and ask each other who we think is going alright, usually construct a top 5 at each break, some write them down at the end of each quarter.

Don't disagree with what you are saying, but the final 3-2-1 is done in the umpires room at the end of the game, usually pretty quickly.... well that's my observation anyway. Would have thought AFL umpire rooms would be a hard place to get into for anyone but the umps on the day.
