Not a well known one but the post match punch on between some North players and Central players on the way to the changing rooms after a match at Prospect in 1973. It was the catalyst for away teams using the Prospect Cricket Club rooms in future.

How about the pre-match punch on between Central and Norwood when the two teams managed to cross paths during the warmup? 1980s IIRC.

My understanding was that it was a plan of Kerls for the Dogs to unsettle our routine by warming up at the Parade end, so ended up with both teams down there. Tommy Warhurst took exception to it, so whilst both were executing pre-match drills he might have vigorously spoiled one of the Dogs players and then she was on.

IIRC The following week, Centrals' banner read "Norwood started it last week, we'll finish it in September".
I think the cheer squad got into a little bit if shit over that.

Norwood ultimately had the last laugh (for 1988) I guess because IIRC they defeated Centrals in the qualifying final.

Yep, another game that had it's moments of spite. Craig Kelly sniped Chopper Handley with an elbow to the head (big enough to dislodge a few teeth) and his season was ended at the tribunal, and by extension so was Norwood's. Although noone was going to get past Port that year.

Yeah mate .. 84' 1st Semi, 88' Quali and 89' 1st Semi. Dogs got a couple back on us in the 90's, and would have in the 00's except for the minor detail of us not not being good enough to play them in September.

Reckon Leslie thrashed Dermie in the final of the 1988 Bicentennial State of Origin Carnival at Footy Park. SA won by close to 10 goals.

It was WA umpire Mike Ball who paid the ridiculous holding the ball against Bruce Lindsay, Brad Hardie took the free & put WA up a point in time on.
SA went forward a couple of times & then Rocky Roberts ran in to an open goal & missed from the goal square, tying the scores.
Robert Wylie then took the ball at half forward and kicked it after the siren went & scored a point, SA umpire Laurie Argent didn't hear the siren at that time & the point stood giving WA the win.

Russo's justification on that was apparently that the SA players werent aware (or didnt adjust adequately) that one of the rules was being interpreted as per VFL rule-book, and not how the SANFL interpreted the particular rule (I know someone who saw Russo at Port Lincoln races a few years ago, when the issue was brought up with him).

From memory, from what the person who spoke to Russo a couple of years ago, said, the VFL, at that time, didnt have a "prior opportunity" rule.
