Sorry couldn't stick around yesterday Q, had to take the family to the Port game.

Hope the lad who injured himself early in the last is ok, never good to see a player in distress or suffer an injury like that! Horrible stuff.

Despite score line, Houghton B grade actually not that bad in the first half, few handy sorts running around - Ben Turner dominated down back.

Surprised Kroepsch, Scott and Kerrigan weren't named amongst the best players though.

Round 9:
Brahma Lodge v Adelaide Lutheran: Brahma Lodge have now dropped two in a row to lose touch with the top 3 momentarily. Aloisi continues to kick goals with 7 on the weekend - although only 2 after half time is a concern. The Tigers aren't having issues putting scores on the board though, and have kicked 30.20 in the past two loses - scoring potency like that will win you more games than not, but the issues seems to be down back, with Brahma lacking a defensive side to their game, happy to engage in shootouts. Life gets no easier for them this week, as they run into a resurgent Adelaide Lutheran who roared back into finals calculations on the weekend with a comprehensive 46 point victory over Mitchell Park. Hoklas helped himself to 6 while Youlten and Redhead must've received my feedback during the week, kicking 6 between them and amongst the best. Koenig continues to carry the Bulldogs, leading from the front. This should be an interesting clash, Brahma are under the pump, whilst smart money says they'll be too good, winning form is the best form you can have, and Adelaide Lutheran come in full of confidence while cracks are beginning to appear in the Tigers armour.. still they should do enough to win here - they need to..

Fitzroy v Houghton Districts: Fitzroy, languishing at the bottom of the ladder, need to find something to get themselves it touch with sides above the, if they're to avoid relegation. They've let a few opportunities slip this season, but they have a chance to peg a game back against Houghton this weekend if they're good enough. Generally a better side at home, massive emphasise on winning this game must be stressed to the 'Roys players given their difficult draw in the second half. Houghton will hold no fears of playing at Fitzroy though, they play the smaller Houghton well and will thrive on Sam Johnson Sportsground. Houghton with a respectable performance against Ingle Farm on the weekend will have confidence going into this game. Glanville with his work cut out this week to provide first use to his mids, and Vandermoer continues to shorten odds for the medal. Bray up forward with Schneider are providing quality avenues to goal. Unfortunately injuries are hitting the Raiders hard, but a couple of handy B graders are capable of filling voids, and I think they'll be too strong in this clash, and should win by 4 goals.

Ingle Farm v Woodville South: Match of the round. Two sides sitting on 7-1, systematically going about their business this year - their only hiccups coming against the powerful West Croydon. Friday night footy at Ledger Reserve last week worked for Chris Clark, as he helped himself to 8 majors in a shoot out with Aloisi, and thrived in the absence of McNeil. Burns and Hains are leading the charge at the Cattery and Daniewicz continues to prove dangerous. Ingle Farm 27 point victors against the Raiders, a 7 goal to 6 first quarter set the tone for the game, but the match became more of an arm wrestle after the free flowing first term. Farmers able to go harder for longer proving the difference, with the smaller brigade of Dogs providing the headaches to Houghton. A good spread of goal kickers proving the key to the Dogs success. Home this week against Woody South, outright 2nd place up for grabs and keeping the buffer on 4th place heading into the halfway point, this proves to be a cracking contest. Bagged for always tipping against Ingle Farm, I'm on-board this week, have been playing some solid footy and have the weapons capable of breaking the Woody South press and scoring against their pressure.

Mitchell Park v West Croydon: Well Yank has been telling everyone for 8 weeks Mitchell Park are no good and relegation awaits, unfortunately his quest to down play his clubs ability appears to be coming to fruition as the Lions after a strong start to the season have fallen off the pace, sitting 3 points off TOS in 9th place. All the talk during the week was of the recruits they secured and Lynton Power took no time settling into his role amongst the Lions midfield amongst the best, and supporting Labbozzetta. Halime kicked 3 goals to provided much needed support to McDonnell, but they appear to still lack more goal kickers. Life doesn't get any easier for the Lions this week as they host the raging premiership favourites West Croydon this week. Jaws dropped around the comp Saturday afternoon, as West Croydon dropped the ball and failed to secure what many thought was a certain victory against TOS. Complacency creeping in? McKinnon and Woodcock kept quiet up forward hurt the Hawks as they suffered their first stumble for the year. Sumner recovered from "a season ending injury" to lead the side best he could but efforts were in vain. They'll be extra hungry this week to right their wrongs and reaffirm their position amongst this competition. Although they got out of Jail against Fitzroy, and drew with TOS, makes me think they're fresh for the picking.. if ever there was a chance for Mitchell Park it's this week, but given recent form I cant see it happening - Hawks by plenty.

Trinity OS v Mawson Lakes: Trinity sent the shock of the season through the comp Sat with their surprise draw against West Croydon. TOS would be happy to have taken the point from a game that no one gave them a chance in, and it gets them out of relegation zone and surprisingly back in the mix for the top 5! Lamont and Cotter combining for 8 of the 10 goals while Eves played out of his skin and MacPhail continued his sublime vein of form, once against amongst the best players. Good balanced side, still missing a couple at the moment though, Trinity will be eager to build on this result and kick start their resurgence in this season. Their opponents Mawson Lakes on the other hand have come close in recent weeks but were finally able to break through for a win on the weekend, 6 goal victors over Fitzroy with Phillips kicking 5 and Tonkin 4. Attention focussed to Novosel allowed others to sneak up on the Lions and do the damage. Haydon another who must've got my memo from last week led the Saints charge and Carr providing critical support. Two sides that play a similar style of play, and Mawson Lakes who have matched it with the best at times this year will have confidence in their ability this week, but not sure if they have the size to stop the big TOS forwards. A game that will be won in the midfield which both sides possess a lot of class, will be a cracking contest, and I suspect a defensive war - low scoring contest. TOS at home for me though in a thriller, to get themselves right back in the race at the halfway mark, setting up an interesting back end of the season.

Round 9:
Brahma Lodge v Adelaide Lutheran: As with the A grade, the Lodge B grade have suffered consecutive defeats, and will be happy to be back at home against a lesser opponent. Lees continues to work tirelessly for Brahma, and Nelson on his return showed why he's been in the first 21. Lehman once again kept quiet, will be eager to bounce back this week against the younger, inexperienced defence of Adel Lutheran who were given a touch up by Mitchell Park Saturday. Byford contributed with 3 goals, while Scharnberg and Clarke tried hard all day without avail. Unable to settle a line up at the moment, the Dogs are barely holding on and have their work cut out this week. Expect Hem-Mendes to have a day out for Brahma and Lehman will dine out on plenty of supply. Brahma by plenty in this clash.

Fitzroy v Houghton Districts: Fitzroy winless still this season, have missed golden opportunities against similar sides. Another side struggling for a consistent side, the 'Roys have battled gallantly without reward this year, and will be looking at this match as the game to change that all. They face a Houghton side that matched it with Ingle Farm for the first half Saturday before falling away. Some handy players and strong physical types, Houghton enter this game as favourites but will need to get more out of their players for longer this week or risk a fade out and missing a chance for 2 points. Fitzgerald and Kroepsch will be hard to stop, and Turner wont be beaten often. Houghton I think have more depth and should record victory in this match.

Ingle Farm v Woodville South: Ingle Farm have enjoyed a recent run of form despite constant changes, and enter this game with some confidence, but knowing they haven't faced a threat like this since they were disposed of mercilessly by West Croydon. Woodville South on the other hand are arguably the premiership favourites. Their only loss coming against West Croydon where inaccurate kicking potentially cost them the victory. O'Regan continues to prove difficult to contain with another 7 goals, and Ashby 5 against Brahma means the Cats have the firepower up forward to beat anyone. A strong physical midfield they're a good unit. A respectable performance from Ingle Farm would be good, the Cats will be far too strong here.

Mitchell Park v West Croydon: The Lions bounced back into the 5 with a strong win against Adelaide Lutheran on the weekend. Wilson superb with 5 majors. Impressive victory without the Hulk Waack too, while Rabbah eases into the season finding form. West Croydon continued their winning ways, although this week it wasn't with the cricket score lines we have come to expect in recent weeks. Challenged this week, the Hawks were able to find a little bit extra to get the 2points and get over the line. The duo of Campbell and Cuellar continue to kick goals, and I cant see Mitchell Park having the personnel to curb their influence this week. Hawks to reach the halfway point of the season 9-0.

Trinity OS v Mawson Lakes: A rejuvenated Krieg showing his worth with back to back bags of 7 goals, leading the TOS charge. Commendable effort against West Croydon, last years premiers appear to be beginning to show signs of big things to come - is the sleeping giant beginning to awaken? The talent is there, and the big names are beginning to wind up. Mawson Lakes have been competitive over recent weeks but fallen short, they finally broke through Saturday to record their first win of the season - and first win in a VERY long time! Thach with 4 proved the difference, as the Lakes got the win. Tough challenge this week, TOS positioning themselves for an assault on the top sides, and I think this week they'll flex their muscles and this will be a massacre.. Krieg to collect another bag.
