Speeding Fines

Hi guys,

I was unlucky enough to get nabbed by a speed camera on the way home tonight.. I was going about 62kmh in a 50kmh zone...

Anyone know what approx 12kmh over would cost me ?
I was thinking about the $180 mark.. also how many points will it cost ?

revenue raising **** they are !!!

For exceeding a limit by 10kmh or less its $169 so you may be up for well over $200.

my daughter just got done 61 in a 50 and it was $179 :shock:

Lucky she wasn't in NSW, they start at well over $300 there

And in Victoria they'll ping you for 54 in a 50 zone.

Some years ago when living in SA I got charged with "Speed Dangerous". The cops were civil and polite but pointed out they were doing 170 in a 110 zone [out past Stirling], "We were flat out at that and you were pulling away from us."

Oooops!!! :oops:

Got "flashed" by a roadside speed camera last week. Doing about 40 mph in a 30 zone. will cost me £60.00 ($150 approx). Fees are pretty fixed until you get up the speed scale over here.
Will cost me 3 points too, or an option to to take a driver awareness course, cost $400 but you don't get a fine or any points.

Got pulled on the M1 at 96 mph and got 5 points and £289 fine :( Empty motorway, early morning FFS.) no excuse I guess.

Once got pulled doing 128 mph very late at night on the M6, was in a hurry to get to the airport or in danger of missing my flight. When asked by the traffic cop why I was going so fast, I explained that I worked for a German company and was late for my flight. It turned out his wife came from the same small town in Germany, where my company was based. He let me off with a caution. Great bloke and restored my faith in the long arm of the law.

Over here, getting caught doing over 100 mph is an automatic ban.
We have a points system, where speeding usually gets you 3, more if the speed is higher or the mph over the speed limit is high. You are ok up to 12 points in total, then you lose your licence.

Can anyone fill me in on the system over there. fines seem higher than here, what about the points system.?

Just interested to find out.

Yes there are only small differences from state to state. In Victoria 135Kph is an automatic loss of licence and the police officer has discretion about whether to ban you on the spot or let you drive home and discuss it witha magistrate later, depending on circumstances. When I was last in SA there was no automatic ban, but the "speed dangerous" usually meant you lost it in court later [I got off.] I don't know whether it has changed since I left in 1998.

Licences can now be taken on the spot in SA as well, for drink/drug driving, and speed, can't remember how far over though. Cars can also be impounded, repeat offenders can lose tham permanantley.

Speeding: The Nanny state has gone too far!! Viva Deutschland! Once upon a time SA was civilised like the NT and there was no speed limit outside posted "built-up" areas. I think Donny D wrecked that in the 1970s, but I am not sure of the timing.

They recenty changed the laws. I think if you exceed the posted speed limit by 40kmh or more it is now an immediate loss of licence. So get caught doing 150kmh in a 110 zone it's bye bye licence for six months :(

Donny D wrecked a lot things that was just one of 'em :( When I got my licence 1972 there was a prime face limit of 60mph, meaning the onus was on the driver to prove that the speed above 60mph was safe.

That would be about right. In 1969 I had a Bathurst model Monaro - the HK 327 cubic inch V8 job - and I remember testing to see whether it would do the advertised 125mph - it did... just, with a bit of a quiver in the wind.

A brutish, garish beast with "GT" stripes, don't make 'em like that anymore :lol:

About right - mine was the metallic Blue with black stripes. The Dunlop crossplies that came with it lasted 10,000 miles. I ran it on Michelin XAS after that. The gear box was clunky, but you could ignore it. Around town I often went straight from 1st to 3rd, and on the odd occasion I left the lights in 3rd and didn't notice until I reached for the gear lever.

I would put anyone doing 150km in a 100km zone on the end of a friggin rope.

Most of the posts are about exceeding the limit in 110Km zones. That is major country roads and freeways. 100Km zones tend to be either transitional zones coming into 80Km zones, or designated major roads inside cities, and, yes, the speed limits there are realistic.

I have given up resisting unrealistic limits on major country roads and freeways outside cities because it is too expensive. [It also depends what you are driving. I had a Holden panel van once - never drove that above 70Km/h anywhere! It just wasn't stable enough, even with a couple of bags of cement in the back.]

I have driven at 240Km/h and more on a track.
