Jacques heading over to South Efrica

Jacques is on his way there due to injuries to ponting, symonds and others.

New South Wales opener Phil Jaques has been added to Australia's one-day international squad for the series against South Africa.

With Ricky Ponting struggling with an abdominal strain, the National Selection Panel has opted to fly Jaques in as cover for the reaming four matches.

"As we're two batsmen down for the time being, due to the injuries to Ricky Ponting and Andrew Symonds, the selectors feel it is essential to fly Phil Jaques in as cover," he said.

"There's no doubt Phil's form has been great this Summer and we've every confidence in him if his services are called upon," NSP Chairman, Trevor Hohns said.

Hohns said that a decision on squad numbers will be made when more is known about the nature of Ponting's injury.

Well they should be giving Shaun Tait a ticket as well to join him over there! I still can't believe the selectors continue to play Mick Lewis, when Tait is over here demolishing arguably the best batting line-up in domestic one-day cricket.

Should Ponting not front for the 2nd ODI, who will bat 1st drop? Surely Gilchrist & Jaques will open, and I guess either Martyn or Katich to come in at 3??

I have to leave Bracken out to make way for Watson/Tait, but should one dip in form, Bracken in straight away. Also if a seaming pitch, drop Hogg for Bracken, but i still think they should go in with Hogg 100% of the time.

Besides Warne who will obviously not play, who else could fill the position? Cullen is too young and inexperienced unless they put him in the ODI side right now. Please do not say Cameron White otherwise I may just throw up.

As for the Hogg issue, who would be a better replacement? MacGill springs to mind, but the selectors obviously will over look him for shite "spinner" in Cameron White. Bring in Cullen ASAP I say.

Fair enough his test record sucks, but fair go he has only played 4 digs. In ODI's his record is a little better. Not bad too for a bloke coming in at 7 or 8 most of the time. His domestic record is even better.
