FOOTY RULES

Postby Lunchcutter » Sun Aug 05, 2007 9:08 pm

Does any one know of any National Sport that changes it's rules every year?

I realise it's for TV coverage to make the game faster and make more money, but honestly the new rules all the time are ruining the game.

The interperation between umpires of hand in the back is so frustrating, a player can take the most fabulous cliff hanger mark which had always been a pleasure to watch, but now should any part of his hand make contact with the oppositions back going up or coming down it becomes a free to the opposition.

This year I was watching a game where a player slipped over put his hand up to save himself which is a natural reaction to anyone ,and the opposition was given a free, even though it made no difference at the time to the play that was going on.

The straight on play on after a point now doesn't give the players a second to regain their breath or even the umpires for that matter,is it any wonder they often kick the ball around amongst themselves sometimes, the players are super fit but they are not super humans even they need time to breath.

And I really beleive that if this possession football we are playing is going to be continued to be played, like Basket Ball rules had to be changed to prevent holding up the game and stopping scoring, the same rule should be applied, in the last 5 minutes the ball can't be kicked backwards, it's just not what we go to see.

You more than likel think I'm an ass but that's my oppinion

Perhaps the rule should be a "push" not a "touch" - that is the person must be pushed forward or off balance to warrant a free. The problem is that in the past a player could land on his face after being propelled forward several feet without there being a penalty.

Football "Oops" I mean Soccer changes a fair bit.

Scottish league have brought in a new rule for this season (Bloody good one too IMO). Replays of matches will be reviewed by a panel and any player found to be diving, will be given a yellow card, retrospectively.

Just the kind of common sense approach the game needs. The only downside......FIFA doesn't recognise the new rule   so if it is carried out, SFA may get into trouble.

FIFA are pathetic

Cricket (one day version at least) seems to change rules a lot

NFL in America is very similar to here - several rule changes each year as playing styles and strategies change

So long as you have coaches pushing the boundaries to squeeze every advantage possible out of a rule, regardless of the impact on the game (ie, flooding), we will need/have rule changes

To Lunch Cutter's mum - you say new rules are runing the game .... and then suggest about 3 new rules?
In between signatures .....

If they are found to have dived a second time, will they be retrospectively red-carded and sent off? :?

Don't forget Pseudo, if you reach 5 yellows you get a ban so whilst you can't actually get retrospectively "sent off" if a player receives one, two, three or more yellows in a game for diving, he could end up with a ban.
