You know that trading isn't the only way clubs improve, right? Trades can be great, but you don't just go around sending blokes and picks to clubs just to satisfy those who want to see action. If Adelaide wasn't able to get any players at a price that made us a winner in that trade, then so be it. Sometimes the best decision a list manager can make is to say no.

You dont always have to be the winner in a trade, we clearly lost in the Mitchell, Lewis trades and thats why the Hawks get things done and will continue to do so. You become easy to trade with you get good deals like the exchange of draft picks with Carlton late. Trading pick 48, 66 and 70 this year for next years 2nd rounder, likely to be about pick 19-23 is an unbelievable trade and even more so that Carlton would have known it was going to get the O'Meara trade done for us. No doubt we probably have a handshake agreement to look after them in the future but would they have trusted any other club to do a similar deal?
Too many clubs are worried about getting one over the other club.
In the end how much of a goose does Cochrane look now, leave it to the list managers. He was never going to the draft, whats better than 3 top 10 picks? Give me 4 top 10 picks anyday. Gold Coast might have missed the boat 1st time round with their list but they wont this time, should be a real contender when these 4 top picks become a graders within 3 years to go with their current spine which is up there with the best in the comp

I think you lost in the trade period, full stop. Vickery is the laughing stock of the KPP world, you know it, but Hawks fans are telling me you'll make him a player. You're not ******* magicians, by the way. O'Meara is the biggest gamble any club has taken this trade period, period. His knees are well and truly under a question mark and you've lost Lewis because of that roll of the dice. The only "win" I see is Mitchell for Mitchell. Tom type is a very good player and one who will be so for many years.

But, with the likes of Hodge, Burgoyne, Gibson, Birchall, Frawley, McEvoy all with their best football behind them to go into this draft with 88 and 1,307 as your only picks is very interesting. A heap of the kids on the list have seen very little senior football in the last 3 years and they won't all stroll into the "one soldier down one soldier" in philosophy of the angry little man in charge.

Interesting times for Hawthorn and Geelong, I reckon.

Yeah its a gamble bringing in OMeara for Lewis but one that could pay huge dividends. Vickery cost nothing in terms of a trade and I think he will play his role, at Richmond he was expected to kick 5 take 10 contested marks and find time to go in the ruck and hit it down Cotchins throat 15 times a game. With Hodge, Burgoyne and Gibson finishing up next year should coincide nicely with Fyfe coming into free agency. Reckon we are to prove you dont need any decent draft picks to be successul ;)

The majority of media and football pundits wrote the Crows off last season, particularly once they'd taken a look at the draw. I thought they'd be nowhere near the 8 myself. Definitely a surprise to most

Absolutely, the draw, the unknown quantity of the new coach ( who appears to be top notch ), the ability of the players to return from what must have been the most tumultuous period in their lives, the loss of Dangerfield, I don't think anyone would have thought with one game to play they could have second spot on the ladder for the taking.

Mind you, career best years from several of their best players saw them play, in my view, if not at their absolute optimum then very, very close to it.

I heard Reid say yesterday that there was "Plenty of organic growth in it", I'm not sure where from, not the top level players I wouldn't have thought.

Fyfe is a very good player, but he doesn't even go close to replacing Hodge, Burgoyne and Gibson. Plus, by then you'll be on the slide and he won't be heading somewhere for lots of cash only to find himself booking holidays for September. ;)

Yeah hard to see where the improvement comes from. The Crows also had close to best year ever on the injury front so hats off to the medicos. They would need to have a similar year on the injury front to stay around the mark

say it every year but expect CEY to actually get game time in 2017 and by default should improve.
Milera should progress (hopefully)
I would like to see Wigg get a go and interested to see if we use Smith through the midfield and how he fits into that pattern.
Hampton is an unknown qty...hit or miss I think. We need to see some regular footy from him.

Maybe I'm looking at it with hindsight.
I certainly didn't think they'd slide, though.

Most media people had them missing the 8. Many thought they might start the season 0-8

We lost not only our best player but the best player in the league and replaced him with nothing coming off the back of the season our coach was killed.

I looked at the draw I think first ten games I had us going 2-8 or something like that, what the AFC achieved in 2016 was a minor miracle it was one of the most enjoyable seasons from us in a long time. I was shitty after that loss to WC and blowing a Top 2 spot I wanted Hawthorn so bad I felt they were ripe for the picking but I knew deep down I was just being greedy at the start of the season I would've taken us even sneaking into the finals everyday of the week.
