Eagle News #7

Postby cd » Wed Aug 08, 2007 4:57 pm

First – the news that the Adelaide Football Club has suspended players for breaking team rules will impact upon us this week as Bernie Vince is now unavailable.

Our injury situation has improved although Matt Cooper will be tested tonight (training tonight at Thebarton) after straining his achilles last week at Elizabeth. However with some excellent form being shown in the reserves (with the likes of Pavlich, Rimington, Fitzgerald, Petrenko, Rugolo, Passador, Inkster, Hall, Pedler, Geddes & Klun) we will have a very strong team for the very important game against Sturt on Saturday at the Adelaide Oval.

Get along to Adelaide Oval to support the boys and then back to the club for a very important evening - Gavin’s Testimonial. A few tickets left – ring the club now to ensure you don’t miss out.
COLVILLE TESTIMONIAL – HURRY LAST CHANCE!!
Saturday 11th August at Champs Function Room, Woodville Oval. Tickets are $70 per person and include 3 course meal, beer, wine and soft drink. This will be a great night paying tribute to the wonderful contribution Gavin has made to the Club.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL EAGLE MEMBERS - Without me driving everyone nuts we have a new membership record – already ahead of last year’s total of 2051. As of today we have a total of 2071 members – can we break 2100 for the first time? 29 to go.

If you’re not a member then please get on board.
This is a great testament to Eagle fans as although we are now building for the finals we haven’t performed as we’d all wish in the early part of the season but you’ve stuck with us and our membership base is growing – Thanks to all who have joined up – your support is very much appreciated.

All footy fans attending our home games have a chance to win an LCD TV valued at $999 from the GOOD GUYS at Mile End – just fill in the entry form and drop in the box in the clubrooms at home games – good luck.

TRIVIA NIGHT
Saturday 18th August at Champs Function Room, Woodville Oval. Come along for a great night of fun and prizes! Tickets are $10 per person, basket super and drinks at the bar. Contact Georgie on 8347 2444 for details

MEMBERS NIGHT – each Thursday at the Club
Every Thursday night at the Eagles Club financial members are in the draw to win CASH (must be present to claim). This week the jackpot amount is at $200. Make sure you come down to the Club on Thursday night for your chance to win.

Even with our inconsistent form it is interesting to note our crowd numbers are up so far this season – membership up and attendances up – get on board folks join the premier club!

Important coming Events include Super Sunday $25 lunch and 2 hours drinks plus entry into $1000 draw – Sunday 26th. August All Welcome. Check the website or call the club for details.

Watch for details of our Charity Day coming up at Woodville Oval – round 20 when we play North Adelaide - when once again for the fourth year for everyone through the gate HILLS INDUSTRIES our major sponsor will donate $1 to the players charity – Ronald McDonald House. Also Vilis will have 1000 donuts as giveaways for the first 1000 through the gate.
On that day all the families staying at the house (Mums Dads brothers and sisters of those children who aren’t well) and those youngsters whose condition allows them to come along will be our special guests at lunch and the game.

As our coach Ron Fuller said in this week’s email to members:
This week against Sturt we will come across a team that is freshened by the bye. They will be keen to consolidate their position in the top three and have a coaching group wanting to atone for a loss early in the year. They are playing good football and believe this, and their fitness, can test any team in the competition. It promises to be a good game of football and it will be good to return to Adelaide Oval for the first time this season.
We need to consolidate our position and also want to bounce back from our first loss for over a month. For all these reasons it becomes a very important game for us.

Hope to see you at the footy – Now for just 29 more members!!

Personal thoughts re the Crows boys being suspended.
Hudson misses game against Geelong
Vince misses Eagles v Sturt
Pfeiffer as Norwood have bye - does he miss 2 weeks of footy? or does not playing for another seconds team count?

Seems messy but as are Crows players I guess the AFC will make ruling.

My thoughts about the Crows boys being suspended is the leadership group who suspended them are not doing any favours to anybody, including themselves! And I'm being very restrained on my thoughts!

Any news on Paul Stewart (admittedly I'm asking from a Port Adelaide AFL perspective). I dont think he was listed in WWT's Reserves side last week, does anyone know if he played, or if indeed he has an injury (presumably his shoulder injury is still lingering??)..
