"Southern Football League (SFL) Fortnightly News
2017 has commenced with some significant steps forward on the achievement of our long term goals focussed on ensuring a strong and viable SFL for the future.
It is your SFL Board’s intention to keep you regularly updated this year – about our movement towards our long term goals and about our day to day activities.
This is the first of our fortnightly SFL bulletins to do just that.
The Big Picture
Strategic Planning
Thank you to Presidents and other Club members for their initial input into the redevelopment of our strategic plan. Feedback is also being sought from some of our key community partners. As promised, a further draft of this plan will be with Presidents and Club delegates at the end of March.
To reflect on the progress of our goals this year and to seek early input from Club Presidents and Secretaries for 2018 and beyond, a further strategic planning session will be held on Sunday, 22 October 2017 – please save the date.
Securing our Financial Position
As discussed at our meeting on Monday, Directors are working to grow your SFL’s financial resources through growing our strategic partnerships with local businesses and other organisations. We are actively and systematically meeting with potential partners and local business associations. A new partnership has just been brokered which will see $5000 provided to the SFL and a significant relationship of mutual value formed – more details will shortly be announced.
Connecting with our Community and with Community Issues
Over the past few years, your SFL has been growing our connection with our local and broader South Australian community around key community issues. Our connections are continuing to grow and more information about these connections and issues and how your Club can be involved will be provided to you as various initiatives and events approach. In the meantime, please note the following dates –
• Southern Volunteering Expo ‘Get InVOLVed’ (an opportunity for clubs to showcase who they are and meet potential volunteers) – Thursday, 27 April 2017
• Reconciliation Round – Saturday, 27 May 2017
• White Ribbon Round – Saturday, 26 August 2017
• Odd Socks/Grow (Youth Mental Health) Round – August (date to be confirmed)
• MAC Round – Saturday, 15 July 2017
Exploring Participation for 6 and 7 Year Olds
The SFL are firm believers in engaging children and their families in football from a young age through and beyond Auskick. SFL Directors are speaking with SACFL and SANFL about our intention to run a bridging programme for Auskick participants. This program will allow children who have completed an Auskick season to participate in a series of programmed matches between Auskick centres. Discussion at this stage are extremely promising. As these discussions progress, we will advise dates and format.
Growing Girls’ and Women’s Participation in Football and in Every Aspect of Club Life
As advised to Clubs, the launch of our girls’/women’s competition will be held from 6.30pm to 7.30pm on Friday, 3 March. The aim of this launch is to have Clubs hear from speakers about girls’ and women’s football and the opportunities that it brings both for players, families, Clubs and our community and for Clubs to hear more about how our SFL competition will run. Please RSVP your eight to ten attendees to your SFL office.
The second round of the State Government Female Facilities Programme grants is now open with applications closing on 10 April. This is a unique opportunity to secure funds to build women’s/girls’ change rooms and other facilities and to send a message to girls and women that they are welcome to equally participate in every aspect of Club life.
Hackham Football Club
The Hackham Football Club have appointed Luke Allan as their senior coach for the 2017 season. We wish Luke all the best and remain committed to continuing to work with Hackham to secure their future.
Club Events
Well done to Christies Beach Football Club on hosting their inaugural and innovative ‘Think Tank’ this Sunday which included community members and club members in a structured brainstorming session about their goals and strategies.
We will continue to provide fortnightly updates to Clubs about progress on broader strategic matters and also on upcoming events. We are also investigating converting this update into e news format.
