Talk on the national game

UK's got it in one.

We effectively have 2 senior spots available, as Howard is still on the LTI list.

Eddy and Houston firming for these spots without a doubt, based on their performances in the JLT. Particularly Houston, who has suprised me.

Eddy, possibly - Houston didn't impress me that much

Worries a hell of a lot more about Alberton than Elizabeth. Odd, I agree. ;)

Much improved showing on Sunday with some run and carry finally on show.

Good :

Ryder - Exceptional in the first 30 minutes. Covering the ground with ease, taking marks, hit outs to the advantage of the inside mids. Looks as though he'll play the 80% of the time in the ruck. Could be the biggest "in" of any club this year.

Wines - Continued his outstanding preseason form. Aided by the bloke above's tap work and the extra big body around him he looks like he might take the step into the elite category if his 3 JLT matches are a guide. Been our best by far over summer.

Polec - Finally looks like he's got some run back, moved nicely on the wing and might be ready to recapture some form that helps Port transition the back to F50 as quickly as we want to.

Powell-Pepper - That don't argue. :D I'm claiming him now as mine, he's a bull who, along with Wines, gives us two units in the contest who not only have the body but the mindset to hit in hard. Will give the likes of Boak and Ebert a chance to get outside more.

Young - Looks really fit, applied plenty of F50 pressure on the Hawks defence and showed he's the mid sized forward in our front 6. Will ensure Monfries plays SANFL most of the year now and looks like Youngy's 2016 was no fluke. Looking to him getting 40+ goals this year.

Not so :

Boak - Although he copped an unlucky corky from Wines he was again down on output early, he looks supremely fit this summer, I see no excuses for the skipper and we need to see his best in the first tough month.

Dixon - Again, seriously unlucky to land on his Hawks opponents leg and roll his ankle. We know he has issues with his ankles and his last two have been after landing on someone in a marking contest. Hardly what we/he needs. Did look better in the first quarter getting mobile and up the ground though.

Westhoff - Just looks lost in the new role he's been given. Doesn't seem to get to any aerial contests and struggles to win it at ground level, he is 6' 10" after all! Needs to go back to a position leading up at the ball.

Trengove - He's our best CHB and must go back there, like Westhoff he's not playing his natural role in the F50 and needs to go back to sure up our tall men in defence.

All in all a much better showing from the lads and with Pittard, Gray, Wingard, Krakouer and Broadbent to come back in there's going to be a couple of unlucky lads in the first week. I think Neade, White, Atley, Bonner and the unlucky Houston will be out when the 5 above come back in.

Most exciting to see was a midfield of Ryder tapping down to the Wines/Powell-Pepper combination looks like it will give us a real opportunity to win some clearances, we just need to use it better when moving forward which, for the most part, did on Sunday. When we led by 10 points middle of the second we were going at 82% D/E. Anything less and we're open to turning it over.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Fyfe Beams Heppell all say hi :D

I do agree he is important to Port though, mostly because of the backup he has

Looks a good prospect but will be tested when he needs to kick to a target.

I said "could" and yes, Fyfe will be big for Fremantle, I think Beams is grossly over rated and Heppell is a very good in. Having said that, none of them are as important to their side as Ryder is to Port this year, IMO.

Once he's right up to speed with the senior level I think he'll find the second or two he needs to settle and execute his skills, right now he's still a little rushed and that might be perceived as much as actual pressure.

Watched Beams on Saturday closely, he is all class. Does alot off the ball that most dont pick up. Beams equally as important to Brisbane as Ryder is to Port.

SPP with his game style will tire quickly in his first season.

The flow on effect for other players to play in their own position when Ryder is taking the ruck is huge for Port.

I think the same could be said about Fyfe.

Will take the oppositions number one tagger which has the flow on for the rest of the midfield.

When he moves into the forward line will arguably take the oppositions best defender despite not being a natural KPP once again flowing on to the rest of the forward line.

Well done to Nathan Krakouer for designing the Power's 2017 Aboriginal guernsey to be worn twice this year. Looks sensational!

Wholheartedly agree, Wedg. A brilliant design, our best indigenous jumper by far.

The only thing that spoils it (and ever so slightly) is the teal river down the middle. I would personally prefer the entire design be black and white.

Well done, Krak!
