I'd prefer Kelly aswell but his cost is too much as he isn't a FA so the Giants would demand 2 first round picks for him. Don't have to give up any picks to get Dusty

Kelly reads the play unbelievabley, his game yesterday was fantastic.

Kelly is a cracking player. Was so good Sunday against us. Would be a good get but as Jim has said inst a FA, so cost eill be huge.

The GWS football factory is churning them out and will only top up with first and second round picks in the next 2-3 years as the young blokes like Kelly shop themselves around. Seriously, the AFL created this monster and there's no end in sight to the top end talent influx. If Kelly walks, as duly noted, you'll be at least a 1st and 2nd rounder and maybe 2 x 1st rounders.

Imagine GWS lose a Kelly ( 2 x 1st rounders ) this year, maybe Whitfield or Greene next year ( potentially another 2 x 1st rounders ), so while they're losing some real talent they're just going to be rolling in 1st and 2 round picks ( most likely some future picks too ) in the next 2-3 years. Like they need more!

Can't see that happening, good idea though.

The Giants have put 50-80 games into these players making them more attractive to potential suitors. The only way to do so is to give them some more top end draft picks! lol....

That's my point. As long as clubs will pay market value, or overs, to lure these GWS stars away, they will continue to replenish their first round draft picks and the cycle never ends.
The AFL have *****ked up here royally with the initial concessions they were granted.
I cannot see it ever changing unless their recruiting department screw it up and draft some duds.

They did get better concessions though hey?

I think Gold Coast went for the quicker road to success where GWS were prepared to get their arses whipped for a while.

My word they got the better concessions.

I remember one year they basically had every 2nd pick from no. 1 through to no. 20

2016 trade period :

In: Brett Deledio (Richmond), picks 2, 39, 45, 52, 57, 58, 59, 60, 77, 2017 second-round pick (St Kilda), 2017 second-round pick (Geelong).

Out: Cam McCarthy, Jack Steele, Paul Ahern, James Stewart, Pat McKenna, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Caleb Marchbank, Jarrod Pickett, Rhys Palmer, picks 7, 16, 35, 73, 2017 second-round pick, 2017 third-round pick

Win: An elite player who can slot in at half-back, half-forward or midfield, the second pick in the draft, a strong hand at next year's draft

Lose: Four players they recruited in the top 10 of drafts, and another four drafted between 14 and 27.

2016 draft picks: 2, 15, 37, 39, 45, 52, 55, 57, 58, 59, 60, 77, 109

What couldn’t they get done?
Nothing. The Giants achieved all they set out to, turning wantaway fringe players into draft picks.

They've already got 2 extra 2nd round picks at the end of this year. One from St Kilda, one from Geelong.

The AFL didn't **** up at all here. This monster is rolling along and will for sometime in an effort to grab a foothold in rugby land. However praise must got to the GWS team, they have created the monster with what the AFL provided them. Kelly leaves, bang a first and probably 2nd rounder.
Then the Academy, then another kid leaves but they have more first rounders coming through.

They did get better concessions, however the Gold Coast had very similar draft concessions. The AFL gave both significant concessions with the idea that both clubs would trade those picks for established players.
Gold Coast traded, but GWS had the alternative thinking to hoard them all & wear the early punishment.

And by getting super old players in like Cornes and power they still had a few big bodies. And those players did just as well as Campbell brown and Nathan bock and others, but GWS got them for free

It's paid off for one and failed miserably for the other. Gold Coast have nobody to blame but themselves. Karmichael Hunt, Campbell Brown, Nathan Bock, Josh Fraser, Jared Brennan, Jarrod Harbrow.

A couple of these boys had "questionable" off field records before they hit the party strip, no wonder the culture of the club is shit house and many of the younger players decided to walk away from on field thumpings and off field tom foolery.

Off field they were also very, very smart. Hard old heads like Sheedy, Williams, Silvagni, Brogan, Cornes etc set the standard early and set the bar high.

Yeah good point about the culture. Having a coke dealer in your team for a while wouldn't have helped lol
