I heard last night that John Cahill has applied for the South job, and at this stage is #1 candidate.

I would actually really like to see Cahill coach South next year.

on the other suggestions that i have read so far.

Mark Bickley- Obviously heavily involved in the media now so would be very hard to pry him away.

Nigel Smart- Heavily involved with work and to be honest i dont think has that much interest in football at the moment

Luke Norman- I personally would not want him to coach South, and i think he wants the West job anyway.

Luke Darcy- Just been placed on the Rules Commitee for the AFL and also will most likely will get a gig as special comments man on Ten, Seven or Fox. So think will stay in Vic

Shaun Rehn- To put it bluntly i really just dont rate his coaching ability and be very disapointed if he was in the running.

Darren Trevena- South man at heart and would probably be very good but he is doing well with Port and will be staying there.

Is there any chance the Caretaker Gary Cameron will be in the running for the job?

South MUST get this right, therefore Cahill would be wrong. He is a money man and at his age that would be all that matters. Rehn has too much baggage, for mine Darren Travena should be offered whatever it takes to get him back as he fits ticks all the boxes in what the club is looking for.
The development of Hickie oval is coming along and after looking at the footings being dug it is going to be some development, i just hope we can afford what is obviously a huge undertaking.

I told a few mates upon hearing of Pyman's departure from South that Darren Trevena would be a brilliant candidate for this gig.

If he was not at least interviewed, I think South would be doing themselves a massive injustice.

I can't see Darren leaving Port Power, he is a career Footy coach and he wants to be in the AFL system having worked with him in 2002 at the Northern Territory Institue of Sport he is where he wants to be....

Why would you want to leave the realtive safety of an assistants job in the ALl to work in the SANFL which with South is lacking a winning culture. Sorry South fans not trying to troll but making an observation based on your posts vis-a-vis the players attitude ATM.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I think it would be a shame if South did not at least approach Trevena to ask the question...irrespective of whether he is enjoying his time at the Power or not.

If Darren knocks them back, then so be it...but people HAVE left AFL gigs to return to the SANFL community.

He may want to be the main man, rather than Choco's assistant. Who knows?

Supposing that he did take the job, I wonder if he would appoint Darren Mead as the Assistant Coach and do what he did last year with Port, taking a mentoring role?

Jack - surely not!! The mentoring role didn't really work out for us (Port) we are still missing the finals!
What about Don Dickie, currently with Sturt.

While we are on Port men how about Scott Hodges, good ameature record or maybe Greg Phillips..

Like a previous poster stated though - even though in gest - the coach may still get screwed. The playing group has a lot to answer for.
