No club really has any one player to do so, but my call would be Jona up the ground and Clurey when deep.

Joe takes about 20% of the ruck including centre bounces aswell so I think he will get Paddy at times too

I wouldn't mind seeing Trengove return to his shut down key back role on Joe this week.

Jacko hasn't got the tank to go up and down with Joe the Moe.

Let Joey get absorbed in a battle with Ryder and leave them rudderless up front.

I'd probably bench Trengove when Joe's in the ruck to give him a breather. Plus it gets him out of the forward line where IMO he's been a liability.

Joe is a gangly bastard. I'd be concerned about his leap and height if it's Clurey and/or Jonas.

With Brisbanes win over Freo today Port are the only team left who havent beaten a side sitting in the top 8 this season

Have said all season that Port have been way way over rated and just cant believe they have been talked up as a Premiership threat. Just an average team that belts up crap teams when theyre vulnerable.

As such Essendon get more of the ball than Port, lots more, but mostly in their back half. Ports press is only currently being countered by the sides at the point end of the ladder with more convincing systems and structures.

Port by about 5 goals.

Hmmmm...I'm a bit worried about young Boon. Hasn't been seen lately. ;)

Hamish Hartlett would seriously have to be the most over rated and over paid player in Ports history!
He just doesn't have the ticker to play AFL, all the skills in the world but no ticker!

Thoughts on Westhoff's season to date?

Looking at his stats he seems pretty even compared to previous years, but doesn't seem to be as damaging this year.

One clear thing from the Stats is he is hardly rucking this year, no doubt due to Ryder being back, but is he playing a different role?

Thats the trouble with a lot of Port players,
Ticker & skills.
Tooooo many have one but not the other
Tooo many players cant kick - Trengove, Westhoff, Byrne Jones to name a few
Also theres not 1 player that comes to mind that i'd be confident of kicking for once more than 25m out.
Port are miles away from being a genuine contender

I've always felt Dixon is a pretty reliable shot on goal - he's had some stinkers of course like others (Saturday for instance), but generally if he's having a shot on goal i expect him to kick it.

*Edit*

2011 - 6.4
2012 - 4.6
2013 - 19.7
2014 - 24.9
2015 - 41.15
2016 - 30.16
2017 - 24.16

I don't think that's all that bad, especially 2014/2015. Interestingly, the most behinds he's kicked in a game is only 3 as well.

Hardly rucks at all, been playing on the wing, high half forward and Trengove or Dixon chop out Ryder.

Out of contract at seasons end, be surprised if we extended his tenure before the season ends. Might be a nervous September/October for him.

Season to date? About the same as all his others, offers flexibility with his height and running ability, playes 5-10 minute patches where he looks like he could be BOG, never is, then drops back in the D50 when we're under the pump to take a grab or two. He's felt like insurance his whole career, you know deep down inside you need it but sort of wonder why you have it at other times.

Sorry, who rates him?

Hamish has actually been ok this year in a new role, was outstanding vs Hawthorn the week before, obviously had an absolutely stinker vs Essendon.

His groins and hammy are tight which limits his pace a lot - at Etihad he really does get exposed. We need to be much smarter with how we manage him.

Mirroring his career.

So much to offer, see it in bits and pieces but no consistency.
