well said speccy i think Fly and SFL Spy's reactions to any comment poofly related are probably just confirmation of this. why try and defend something that supposedly isn't true?

Z.chucks you can't blame two blokes sticking up for their clubs - wouldn't you do the same? I reckon their insight (knowing more than us other blokes - being actually involved in the club ) deserves some credibility?

To say that frustrating results over 10 years (which includes being at least 3 times runners up) = massive club problems, is a little hard for me to understand. I know there has been a few B grade premierships in that time aswell - not sure how many? back to my point, there still winning matches and players and crowds are still there. that doesn't say to me that theres major issues.

But, thats just my perspective and everyone is entitled to an opinion.

I don't think we're debating the fact they've been successful even though there is no recent A grade flag hanging up in the clubrooms. You can be strong on the field but what most have noticed is the off field circumstances. It was last years GF when Morphett Vale were getting well on top of Reynella that I saw several Reynella supporters start physically fighting with each other. Lucky there were people there to break it up.

Totally agree with you Flyer and if it was just a simple matter of them defending their club it would be understandable but as soon as anything is spoken about Reynella that they might not like they get a little precious and try and bring some of the struggling clubs down which to me is a bit weak I'm all for defending my club but I know that it's far from perfect just seems to me that is there problem they can't see that maybe they aren't doing things right? Someone previously said that good runs come in ebbs and flows and if they miss a flag now it could be a long time before another! Morphett Vale where 23 years between flags but they have taken there opportunities everytime they have been presented one!!

Over the years I've seen my fair share of Black and red feralness in the crowd - but I guess that is a separate issue. some - bad crowd behaviour is apart of all clubs.

I don't totally agree with you there flyer. It doesn't happen at my club, and if it did the offenders would be turfed out pretty quickly. These blokes I saw fighting were big fellas. One was a current B grader at the time - the other looked like one of the A graders dads. They were serious too.

Nice to see there is still a lot of love around here. Anyway, back to the footy:

I've seen Reynella play quite a lot this year. Yes, it's true,in the last month they've fallen short (I thought) unexpectedly against Cove and then a close loss to Morphies plus last saturdays 14 point loss to Happy Valley (a side that only got knocked over by MV by 2 points themselves recently) BUT that may not be the worst situation they could find themselves in.

In previous seasons they've pretty much sailed into the finals. Getting sat back on their bums might just be the spur they need. Who knows? Teams can easily get ahead of themselves in what is generally speaking a predictable competition. As a top 4 or 5 side you would look at the program at the start of the year and pretty well map out the wins barring the (very) occassional upset. We saw Cove get soundly beaten by Brighton a week after the Reynella victory and they were maybe suffering the same thing. Even the seemingly invincible Emus struggle from time to time and they are probably the SFL side which feels the weight of expectation the most.

There is still plenty of footy to be played. Reynella have a lot of talent and they can't be dismissed as 'bridesmaids' or anything else ridiculous like that. Every year 15 teams are disappointed at the end of the season - at least they've been there on the last day twice in the past two seasons. How many other clubs would have loved to be there? 14 others I'd guess.

Good call Valleys. Summary is spot on, I think it will definitely be an interesting first round of finals footy. Is the top 4 cemented? How much can it change? 5 teams could win on their day, but Morphies still would be odds on favourites at this satge - I'm just hoping "someone" can knock them off in a massive upset GF day. Reynella B grade must be odds on for back to back B grade flags! Morphies and H-valley not getting close to them.

G'day Mattee!
I'm still about the place mate. I see an SFL game every week but alas I must confess I haven't gone near the bay oval once this season.
I read a lot of the stuff here but rarely post these days. Sorry to see the Falcons haven't had the year you would have hoped but they'll bounce back as I hear there are some serious plans being made to improve their on-field fortunes so good luck with that.

As for the previous question about the five I think there could be a slight shuffle around but really it won't make too much difference. A lot is made of this 'having a rest' business but it helps or hinders different players. It's like the ' don't go in too tall on a wet day' So what? A good player is a good player regardless of the weather. If your side isnt fit by now it never will be and everyone is carrying sore spots so just get on with it and let the cards fall where they may.
I was talking to a prominent SFL player on saturday night who said "my theory is we face Morphies in the first week of finals, knock them off, and then move onto the next week". I was a little surprised by that at first but when you think about it the theory is pretty sound. MV - very good team that they are - have not been killing sides off from the five in a fair while and are probably get-able if your whole side turns up mentally to play.Let's get this week over with and get on with it.
