Rd 21 2007 North v Glenelg @ Prospect

Postby MightyEagles » Sun Aug 19, 2007 10:37 am

Can North fire after losing by 3 points yesterday? Or can Glenelg continue their winning ways.

i'd think that both teams will be at or very close to full strength, so it should be a beauty, the mentally tougher team will win
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

i reckon the bays fans and players will feel very confident but that north fans will expect their team to win.

this game has the ability to be a cracker of a contest but also could turn into a blow out and has been shown before, either team can do that.

ill def keep an ear on this one next wkend.

think i'll jump on the bays bandwagon to keep sturt that little bit safer in the top 3....hmmmm, let me think.... :?

The last few games have been brilliant, massive goals kicked by both teams.

Roosters should come out spitting fire this week. Howard back to add some grunt. Fine conditions all week should lead to a great playing surface. Can Bays go with North in the air? Also smell of finals in the nostrils. Should be interesting but if North drop this one I'd be saying bye bye 07 thanks for the memories.
My tip: Roosters (glad it's a Saturday game also)

Should be a great game - think I'd rather it be a Challenge Rec oval though! No doubt another shootout like their past 3 or 4 games. Crows selection could make this game interesting if Riccuito come back in - Gill or Douglas could be dropped back if Roo is to play up forward....

I think North will win pretty easily. They are a class above Glenelg. Having said that, I hope Glenelg win!

Modifying a post from Bayman on SL.org, this is the "fictitious" SANFL ladder from Rd 11 (i.e the Rd after the longweekend when Gl def NA, St def CD, Nwd def Eags & SA def WA) In other this is the ladder based on the last 10 rds of footy...

CD 16
Gl 13
St 12
NA 12
WWT 12
PA 5
Nwd 4
SA 2
WA 2

What does it mean for this weeks results 2/5ths of bugger all really but it does give an indication of the form teams of the competition.....

Maybe Gl are a silly chance in the next 3 weeks....?????

Oh Good just like the 85 & 86 GFs, 1990 QF, 1992 1st Semi.....

I like it when NA wear the candy stripes more often than not we win the important games (1 obvious exception  )

Can't see the Bays getting up in this one. North will be a little hungrier - they have more at stake. Bays will make the five but North could still slip to forth...

Can't see Crows dropping Gill, who to his credit has put in some good efforts. The Bays would need Douglas back to be half a chance.

Should be a good game - Roosters by 24 points...

I noticed you never bothered to do a ladder from Rounds 1-10! Please note the minor round is played over 23 matches - not selective rounds to make your side look better but then again if you want to use anything to pump up your own abilities then go for it?

Agreed it is played over 23 rds the point I'm highlighting is current form. You and I both know teams go in and out of form due to injuries, change of personnel etc. I fully admit the first 10 weeks we would be stone cold motherless

Wins in April and May does not a season make. Case in point Glenelg in 2005 5 wins from 7 games IIRC then....

You can go back further for the flip side, Norwood was virtually gone in 1978 and 1984 by July but then cam home with wins in the last half of the season and the rest they say is history.

Bottom line I would be rather playing good footy now and winning comapred to playing good footy in April may but loosing now.

Am I confident of winning this week no, I think there is a fair amount of angst at Menzies Cres after events of the last two weeks (howard and the narrow loss to the Eagles). I am (and I bet my club is) fully expecting a highly motivated North Adelaide to grace the oval at ~ 1:50 pm this Saturday.

At the same time I looking forward to seeing if my team runs on the with the same amount of application we showed last game and in Rd 10 against North. If we do it will be an interesting day and a good specticle.

Minor correction: Glenelg were 1 win, 4 losses at one stage in 2005. The best our record got to was 4-4 and then 5-5.

Last week's let down combined with a game with heritage jumpers against the Bays can only mean one thing - a likely North loss and the start of the end for 2007 and some at North.....

I have no confidence this week whatsoever and I would rather get missing the double chance over and done with this week rather than leave it to round 23 - just like in seasons 2004 and 2005. Personally speaking if we lose this week I hope we actually slide out of the 5 rather than just make up the numbers for the sake of it but the good lord will punish us North people and make us play another Elimination Final with the stench of failure hovering over like an atomic cloud about to choke us along with the skeltons of another failed season rattling away in the change room lockers. In summary - I'm not worried or depressed to be honest - mediocrity is accepted too often in some circles at Prospect so you get used to it - now what's that old chestnut - you reap what......

Perhaps Taz-boy meant 1995? I recall in both of the Symonds years the Bays had good starts but folded about a third of the way into the season.
