I wonder why that is?
Why is that? That's sort of what I'm getting at. Maybe other clubs don't see the web as a forum for discussing these issues? Are these issues raised by other clubs at SANFL meetings etc.?
Either way, as hondo71 says, any publicity is good publicity and the interest generated would turn to hits which would turn to more chances for sponsorship and more chances for membership.
A bit more of a united front from some of the other clubs and public comment might actually move or should I say force the SANFL to making some changes and being progressive for our comp and not just do what is "hip" as dictated by the AFL.
One day when the majority of SANFL clubs are financially independant and strong and not having to rely on the AFL dividend, we may see some clubs find their "balls" and be more vocal. Whilst the league holds that gun at the SANFL clubs many will remain silent even though they don't agree with many policies and directions the SANFL is taking.
A couple of agenda's that need looking at short term are:
1. Disband 17's and 19's and form U18's.
2. Salary Cap ceiling definately needs revisiting for two reasons, keeping our league ahead of the VFL, Vic Country Leagues and the WAFL and also to allow the clubs to retain Senior listed players in the ressies on better payments than 98% are on presently. The number of players who leave all clubs for better local or country money is a joke. They train as much as any other contracted SANFL player and should receive some reward or incentive. If it is not raised significantly you can expect some more creative accounting practices to be developed by all clubs!
3. Looking at the longer term retention of crowd numbers - how do we get today's youngsters 5-15 age group who go each week (many forced by parents or have no choice) to continue to go when they get to 16 yrs of age and beyond in the face of more attactive leisure activities or more "in" things to follow - e.g. the AFL
