i want to know from you experts what you think of the 'sprint-lane' personally i don't like it

I dont mind it as it gives horses a chance but what I find unbelievable is there is no consistency across the nation, surely all tracks should have it or not have not here and there like it is now...

Sprint Lanes For Me.

DUTCHY - I Agree that it would be Good that all tracks have sprint lanes for uniformity but it wont happen.
The Gallops are No different though as some tracks have Cut-away rails and others dont, then there are the different surfaces like Grass, Dirt, Stath-Ayr ? (Moonee Valley) and that Synthetic Track at Geelong so at the End of the Day its up to the Punter to do their homework on the tracks they are Betting on.

I used to think they were bad, but not now

FOR
there are 10 horse fields, at least now 8 of the draws are very good to OK
1-2-3-4-5-6 gives an opportunity to go forward or back [even though inside draws are better]
7 has the option to follow the leader[and sprint lane] or come one off the fence
8 can follow 2or 3 through and sometimes obtain a forward spot
9-10 are at a clear disadvantage
The more equalised opportunity at the draws the better for owners/trainers getting a chance

AGAINST
Nothing worse than a horse doing all the work in the breeze or out wide from well
back and running on to be beaten by the bludge lane sprinter

VERDICT
I would stick with them

I had a massive collect on Fire and Brimestone who drew barrier 7
Dr Dre I expected would lead from Barrier 1 and F+B would get the sprint lane [as did]
F+B paid $30 + on all the TABS

after watching the racing at ballarat on sunday, the first time i have seen a 1000m track live, i would suggest with a good track sprint lanes arent required as a couple of winners came from 3 pegs although the reverse happened with lombo pocket watch who couldnt get out but i guess thats the risk that is taken by staying on the pegs.

at small tracks like harold park with no sprint lane too often horses are left without a run so i say on 1000m tracks sprint lanes arent required but on 800-850m tracks they are

Bayman - can you do us a favour and keep a track on the main tracks (moonee valley / globe / Albion Park) over the next month and tell us how many sprint lane horses win.. it should prove there aren't as many as you think..... All it does is give every horse a better chance for more competitive racing...

but also means the best horse may not win the race

That can be viewed both ways as it allows leaders to Stagger over the line to win whilst better horses go the the line Bolting with NO RUN, Glouester Park is a Prime Example of this and many times iv'e seen horses Bcos of their draw and the way the race was run never had a chance to get into the clear at any stage from start to finish.
Bigger Tracks, Longer straights and Wider sprint lanes to give every runner a fair chance is the way to go for me.

my fav is Gloucester Park - no sprint lane

yes it can get frustrating when you are on a horse bolting that is on the pegs with no-where to go, but if you do the form, you generally know what horses will land in what positions.

some horses go to the fence, some horses dont.

for betting purposes - mainly exotics - tri's etc

Globe Derby is the 1 looks the leader and the 7 will sit in behind it, then the tri ticket is 1/7/f for units, 1/f/7 but then you have to save on the 7/1/f scenario

Gloucester Park you only need the 1/10/f and 1/f/10 scenario.

you generally dont have to save on the horse behind the leader winning at gloucester park, because most of the time the driver on the leader will keep it boxed it, but makes sure it runs a place for the tri and quartet players like JJ

Love the Quartet Jackpots at Gloucester Park. Usually Very Tough to get with 0.50c units, NO Flexi Betting, 12 horse fields on a small track with no sprint lane makes for a Great Dividend as the Pool usually gets to 50 - 70 K.
The trick is that you have to spend up and go wide as often there are Runners at Big odds that can figure in the placings. Although their form may look crap on paper, its not Bcos they are going bad But Bcos they can go 5 - 6 runs in a row having NO luck on that track.
