Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

And why do we have the things you trumpeted as the Howard years as having achieved? Because the Hawke/Keating government had the intestinal fortitude to deregulate both the financial and labour markets, a point often missed in the 'don't trust Labor with money' scare campaign.

In turn Howard and Costello have excelled in churning. Taking high taxes from us, amongst the highest in OCED, and then returning them as family benefits etc. A waste of time and a HUGE waste of taxpayer money. Much like those 'information campaigns' they love to run about three months out from an election.

It's time Mick.

I still fail to be convinced these were wise decisions, any more than dropping tariff barriers to make the "accord" appear to be working was.

And I still remember 17% home loan rates under both Whitlam and Hawke/Keating. Personally I did OK. I had a locked in loan a 8.5% before Whitlamnomics hit, and swapped to short-term bank bills at 14% for the duration of the Keating fiasco. However, the workers struggling to buy their homes didn't have those options.

[And I cashed in on the inflation. Did I mention PK helping me make 40% on a second-hand Porsche in 1987 before? Business and investment was so hopeless people bought tax deductions instead, and tax deductions went up in value for the first time in Australian history!]

Bye, bye Mr Rudd or Mr Howard?

Maxine surge as ALP takes a grip!

In an unthinkable twist, there has now been more money placed with Centrebet on Maxine McKew to win Bennelong than the Prime Minister – as a flood of money shores up Labor’s charge towards favouritism for the Federal Election!

“It’s extraordinary,” Centrebet analyst Neil Evans said! “A string of bets has seen Ms McKew’s ‘hold’ climb over $10,000.00 against $9,000.00 for Mr Howard! Ms McKew is now in to $2.10, and the PM has drifted to a hard-t0-fathom $1.63.

“Remembering a PM hasn’t lost his own seat since Stanley Bruce in 1929, yet Mr Howard is clinging to favouritism in a seat he’s made his own.”

As Centrebet pushed towards $1 million in its PM book, a surge of money has seen Labor shorten to $1.50, forcing the Coalition out to $2.60!

“We’ve taken a host of bets on Labor in the last couple of weeks, plenty around the $10,000.00 mark – and one of $25,000.00 at $1.54,” Evans said. “The only significant bet on John Howard in that time is $10,000.00 at $2.55!

“In fact, of the last $150,000.00 traded through the door, $130,000.00 of that has been on Labor. There is now about $930,000.00 in the outright book – with $520,000.00 placed on the Opposition!”

Evans said the damaging Howard-Costello rift was the catalyst for serious Labor backing!

“The so-called disunity and lack of trust in the Coalition has really struck a chord with punters!

“APEC, though, might be a real opportunity for the government to mend this, otherwise Mr Rudd will march to the poll a very warm favourite, despite having shown little in sensitive policy areas.

“The PM is fast losing the personality stakes – and punters know it! But they also know, Labor is getting a free ride along in the policy debate.

“The PM will now go for a hard drawn-out campaign, and try to expose the Opposition Leader on several political fronts. It could be the PM’s best and last chance!”

Centrebet still has Saturday, November 10 as its $3.75 favourite for when the election will be held, ahead of Nov 17 ($4.75) and Nov 24 ($5.00).

Congratulations are in order for that model jounalist Glenn Milne and ruperts' rag-the sunday mail. The only time I've touched the Sunday Mail is when I've run out of toilet paper. Milne is such a pillar of integrity and sobriety. This surely is payback by News limited for years of relaxing the media ownership laws for the benefit of conservative donors like Murdock by the current Government.
The fact that Mr Rudd has visited a girly bar in NYC demonstrates to me that he at least has a life and a pulse running through his veins.Unlike other politicians we know he doesnt seem to enjoy wearing high heels and fishnet stockings, he hasnt been found trouserless in a hotel corridor, he has'nt entertained Australias' porn king at numerous fundraisers either.
It sounds to me like the election may be called sooner rather than later now. It is obvious that Howard has now let his muck raking attack dogs, Abbott & Costello off the leash.
But Mr Howard should be careful because there are one or two skeletons in the cupboard of his personal life too. 8)

Unlike Mr Rudd, I've never felt bad for going to a gentleman's club, and I've never reflected that I should've gone home straight from dinner.

It's sad that high profile people in our society have to continue to use these sort of comments to apologise for their actions in the face of sanctimonious judgement.

It is the media rather than the Liberals that are doing the pushing of the issue. Yet wasnt the same thing supposed to have happened to Latham at a bucks night? So weather or not anyone in the electorate cares less or not will remain to be seen. Considering how the media like to play "good cop, bad cop" they will fairly soon be onto something else after a week or so.

When they get to publishing Fred Niles thoughts, you will know that they are running a little dry on information! 8)

I doubt that a politician on either side would think it would make any difference. It sounds like the media just being drama queens again.

I'm surprised no one's written a behind the scenes expose in 'fiction' format on this. Would make for great reading.

How many other male pollies are sweating about their past strip club visits getting out now I wonder :D

I think it will all blow over very quickly - Rudd is good at getting on the front foot with these issues, being honest and taking the heat out of the issue

There once was a federal Labor pollie, who back in his days at Adelaide Uni helped steal a hearse from outside Berry's as a Prosh prank. He'd have never gotten to be a pollie if he'd been caught and convicted!

I always thought Rudd was a sleeze and this latest revalation only reinforces this opinion.

How dare he preach family values and morals, etc. and on the otherhand get sucked into visiting a strip club - no matter how drunk. Very hypocritical...deserves what he gets...
