Good idea LEH - a number of local players and coaches interviewed, match discussions and talk back callers ringing in on just SANFL.

Just imagine incessant phone calls night after night from Sturtpeter about Sturt and his wonderful baby blues. He will be able to excitedly tell us about Sturt's amazing revival - how they have overcome WW2 atrocities, Polio, Aids, fed the starving masses in Africa and managed to climb up the SANFL ladder again. Bring it on, I can't wait!

When i read this I thought "what a great idea"! Then read that a few others have already backed it. But I just wanted to add, that it is the characters that generate interest amongst the public. I have never heard Sturt Peter's legendary calls on the radio, but if they are as half as good as people make them out, and have a similar content to what he writes on here, we could be on a winner. The Eddie McGuire of SANFL footy perhaps? I can just imagine the hundreds of footy followers tuning in and listening to the bias Sturt Peter is going to dish up about our beloved Blues, and then complain about it all week. I love it! Any chance of this becoming reality?

Who needs a radio station ?

Scoop & I do a 30 min podcast each week "Panthers Radio" for south members which goes on the members only section of the web site.


Would it be too big a leap to get a panel of people together at one place for an hour each week to do something on the SANFL.

If you could get a phone line onto the computer recording (for interviews etc) you would be home.

Usually stations will charge a fee for airspace and the cost depends on who you are and what you want to do - one community station here in Perth allows sporting groups to present a 1/2 hour or 1 hour show on a Sunday morning over a 20-25 week run (i.e. a season) for a couple of grand, with a possible variance depending on the timeslot.

From there you knock up a major sponsor for between $750-$1000 (i.e. the SANFL Footy Show brought to you by XYZ, who will get a mention going into and coming out of each break plus an advert in each break) and between $250-$500 for a couple of advertisers/segment sponsors, plus $100 for a minor sponsor. That way costs should be covered.

I think I will come up with a proposal for next season & get back to you all, looking for input/ideas.
My late father worked for 5DN & then it's FM station & finally AA before he died, so thinking that there's an opportunity.
Might endeavour to 'drum up' some financial backing & see where it takes me... err, stay turned
