not exactly easy given Denmark and Peru are ranked 11th and 12th, but do agree that it shouldnt exactly strike fear into the aussies when you compare it to spain chile and netherlands last time

The rankings are based on the amount of games played and doesn’t take into consideration things like strength of opposition.
Saudi Arabia for instance finished ahead of us and yet are ranked below us by about 25 spots and Japan are below us by about 15 places despite automatically qualifying. Teams like Wales, Netherlands and others ranked top 20 whilst not even qualifying and Russia ranked in the 60’s because as hosts they didn’t play any qualifiers

Unfortunately there just aren't enough international matches to be able to produce accurate rankings.
