for the Eagles this is very much a danger game. They need not be complacent otherwise the result may be the same as the earlier fixture at broadspectrum. Westies will come out fired up wanting to cause an upset against a top 5 side. The Eagles on the other hand have a lot to play for as they are still a chance to finish top 3. If the Eagles come out switched on it could be a blood bath. It will be interesting to see how passador, schwarze and salter all work together that is if ronnie plays all 3 up forward. I'm predicting an Eagles win by 56 points.

well since my mob are playing tonight I thought I'd jump the back fence and take a look at the proceedings between these two.

As I walked to the gate a former coach walks in none other than Shaun Rehn and cheers to the bloke who gave me a complimentary pass 2 metres from the gate you saved me three bucks.

Cutting straight to the chase West needs a new gearbox. too many times when they got into gear it jumped into neutral. the object of the game is to pass the ball to team-mates to score goals and ultimately win the match. That means kicking to the players dressed in Black and red not the ones in blue and yellow. I lost count how many times this happened including when kicking to a contest outnumbered.

Ryan Willits had a few brain fades today........... is there some way you can send him back to the bays????

hmmm the eagles seem to be finding their feet at the right time of year and we should be in for a ripper finals series this season.

on the positive side I did sample the BBQ and strike me pink why haven't been to more West games before absolutely sensational.

In order to move forward I hope that they select the right coach similar to Rick Macgown and Sturt you need it.

Very happy to be in 3rd spot after today's game! Thanks Glenelg! Was a fairly average game. Westies had some good players in Ezard and co on the ball who matched it with the Eagles for the first half, but their lack of depth was always going to see them struggle later in the match. Eagles ended up winning by 14 goals with the last half little better than a training run. Vince and Schwarze both would have kicked about 5 goals. Best players I thought were Passador out at CHF, Jarrad on the wing and the back line of McKenzie, Fiacchi, Stewart and Pedler all played well.

Eagles 4.2 7.5 14.12 19.14 (128)
West 1.2 4.6 4.9 5.16 (46)

1st: 25:58
2nd: 26:20
3rd: 29:03
4th: 29:11
Total: 110:32

Scorers: Eagles: Schwarze 6.1, Vince 5.1, McGregor 4.2, Passador 2.1, Fairclough, Lomas 1.0, Inkster 0.2, Colville, Cicolella 0.1, Rushed 0.5.
West: Bradyn Fisher 2.0, Cupido 1.4, Gray 1.2, Smith 1.0, Caire 0.2, Hollands, McCormick, Bayliss, Hutchins 0.1, Rushed 0.3. (I missed a behind to West)

I still think about 80% of playing football is in the mind. The apparent approach we had in the first quarter and a half to me looked like that they thought only playing at half steam would win it. This is not taking anything away from West in this period because they certainly took it up to us. But I thought West spent a lot of effort for little return, could have been ahead about 13 minutes in the second, but a missed shot on goal saw the score at 5.3 to 4.4. When West scored their next goal it was 15.13 to 5.14, and it was halfway through the last.

It's hard to think if that was a satisfying win or not, because both sides missed easy chances, but I think we should have been much further ahead on the scoreboard by hearing what the inside 50s were on the radio - 71 to 43. I did say that I only expected a 10 goal win, so I guess I can't complain, especially with Glenelg winning.

A game like that is a good indicator as to why we haven't won a Magarey Medal in the 16 seasons gone before this one - another even effort, but I think Jarrad (again!), Fiacchi, Schwarze (when he was up forward), Cicolella and Fairclough were our best. For West, Bradyn Fisher played well, I thought Willits was 50/50 on McGregor, although the brain fade which gave McGregor his 5th for mine puts McGregor ahead.

Gee you Eagles supporters are nice blokes

I thought our effort at the ball today was terrible, especially in the second half.

There were of course some excellent efforts in a sea of mediocrity.

Ezard battled hard and used the ball well all day as did .... er ..... um .......

We missed McCormick badly and although Willits did have some major brain fades I thought he did an excellent job when you take into account how well the Eagles mid field passed the ball into their forward lines, helped mostly by there superior skills and total lack of pressure, especially in the second half, from the Bloods midfield. Dont have any stats but my feeling was that McGregor did most of his damage after half time.

Lenny Clark battled well but was not as effective as usual, Dragacevic had one of those games where you are sure he is wearing the wrong boots and Hollands suffered turkey day syndrome.

Eagles FF (11) Schwartze? absolutely killed Barling early and was the major difference on the park in the first quarter IMO, Barling was behind and chasing all day and with the way the ball was delivered I cant remember Schwartze getting spoiled in the first quarter and a half.

Anyway it looks like the players are over 2007 and the Weed this season, I just hope we dont get destroyed in the last two games, I dont think I can take it anymore [-o< :-({|= :(

My honest assessment of West at the moment is that there is some promise there - Willits at CHB for starters ;), but it's not as if the players weren't trying, far from it. That's what is needed to be taken into next season, a season under the belts of the younger players will help as far as experience goes.

Recruiting players can be hit and miss, I think more often than not the players who aren't high profile but show they have class are the ones to go for. We have been lucky in that regard, the recruits we've had from interstate over the last couple of season like Jarrad and Schwarze are not the high profile type players, but are invaluable to the side.

Robbie Gray was woeful and should be played in the reserves next week, what is the point in putting up with half arsed efforts like that when there is no future for him at the Bloods? Its not like he is going to play 50 games for us, maybe another 5 or so. He looked in a sook down in the clubrooms before the game and looked no better out on the park

And did Piasente play? Coz I can't remember him doing anything at all?

Brayden Fisher continues to improve and Fielke is showing signs of good things to come so we have some great juniors showing alot overall really. Only problem is...... there is not 1 100+ player at the club!!!

Where is the experienced players to guide the developing juniors and help them out on the ground?

It is a long and winding road a head, the appointment of a new coach is very important I can only hope the players give him the full support which has obviously been lacking from them when it comes to Wayne Weiderman.

I wish Wayne all the best its a pity but things just didnt work out. I hope if the new coach does not get the support they deserve, like Wayne did not, that the administration has the guts to stand up and punish the players, something that has proven to be hard to do at many struggling SANFL clubs

That's the thing, hopefully you guys can hang on to the current players, because the only way you can have a 100+ game SANFL player is recruiting one. And there hasn't been too many 100+ players to change clubs lately (Apart from Hargraves).

The King is dead, Long live the King.

As long as we use Doug as an excuse we will never achieve anything IMO.

It is time for us to grow up and get on with it, which I think is exactly what is happening off the field these days and I am looking forward to the future, its just like wading through quicksand some days at the moment though.

You are quite right there. Another factor is how well the players and coach get along with each other. Whether one side of the equation is in the wrong or both are, both the players and the coach (whoever they are) need to realise it's the supporters of the club who suffer.

Was a good win today .Was not our best football and we did not play 4 quarters but we won.
Does anyone know if Schwarze and Symonds were badly injured ?

And I must admit i had fun giving it to cupido and willets surprised they didnt jump the fence.

Don't know about injuries, cd will know about that. And where were you when that happened? I was right in front of that, but did not see what happened there (was looking elsewhere), Inkster was on the ground, but I knew that Willits did something there to give away a 25 metre that should not have happened.

Cupido voiced his disgust, I know that much.

Schwarze was at the other end of the ground from me spellcheck.
The inkster thing was right in front of me .Willits was told or it appeared by another west player to leave the mark and man up on inkster.Instead he hip and shoulder inkster (or something similar) in the back .Inkster laid out 25 metre penalty paid.goal result.
Actullay we were giving it to willits and cupido all day there were plenty of eating too many pies comments in the crowd.
And when I went off about williams teaching willits dirty tricks .A poor west fan said they properly taught him that
Hell i didnt see LEH today but i heard him twice once for a rugolo goal in the two's and once for a comment about neil craig's hurting our home grown afl players goal kicking.
