Congratulations to Glenelg Football Club!

Postby spell_check » Sat Aug 25, 2007 7:12 pm

When I was at Norwood Oval in round 9, I thought that Glenelg were not that a bad side for someone sitting in last place. Indeed they lost the match by being defensive as well as going missing in the one quarter, and some of the criticism that came from wherever (Glenelg or other clubs fans) was a bit harsh. To me, with the players Glenelg have, and a coach I rate quite highly, it was confidence that Glenelg were only missing.

Since this match Glenelg have only lost two matches, and now have cemented a finals spot. Glenelg are a dangerous side now, who can match and beat anyone on the day. Glenelg last year, I compared to us in 1998, and with the same coach, I had a feeling that this will be a better year for the Tigers.

So I say well done to Glenelg, and good luck for the rest of the year. :)

Yeah, great stuff by Glenelg, as an avid SANFL supporter Im geniunely looking forward to the finals and the clashes involving Glenelg, Eagles, Sturt and Central, its a pity one club will just be making up the numbers but they wont last long.

I talked to a long time supporter of the Bays who is also a regular on here and he'd written them off after that loss to Glenelg in or around Round 7.
(Not that I blame him with the style of footy they were playing at that stage)

That night at Norwood I went with so much confidence that we would turn our season around but was so dissapointed....to be in this position now is sensational...just shows it is a long long season and you have to keep faith and grind out the season as things can change very easily

Nup, last final Glenelg lost was to Norwood in the 1st Semi in 1999. (They last the Qual to the Eagles the week before)
Glenelg's last win in a final was way back in 1992 when the beat the Eagles in the Prelim.
I daresay the 15 year old drought will be broken this year if they play North.
Glenelg have actually lost their last 6 finals played.

Yep straight sets in 99 - Was an exctiing year which ended pretty badly. We were in a winning position against Norwood IIRC?

Haven't actually been to a Bays finals match apart from the 92 GF!

Yes, Glenelg were about 4 goals up in the 3rd quarter. We had lost to Glenelg on the three occasions in the minor round coming into the qualifying final. Sudjai Cook will be forever remembered in that match.

Actually I think that was about the time I predicted that Glenelg would play in finals and would win at least one final! The first half of that statement is probably about the only thing I have got right this year!! *grins*
