Footynut..below is what is needed to be the next Westies coach.. In fairness to Burgess, yes he was a good player but lacks some of the criteria quoted below especially where it says...A track record of success.

To achieve this, the senior coach must be able to demonstrate the following:
Prior senior or assistant coaching experience at AFL or State League Level
Outstanding communication skills
Strong management and leadership skills
The ability to maximise individual performance
Instil team spirit and unity
A track record of success
Capacity for sound decision making under pressure

So Basicallythey want Healy, Lee or Chaplin. Really, there aren't too many guys around with a successful background in the SANFL that aren't Centrals blokes ATM, so the list is almost down to the assistants at the CDFC from recent years.

Scott Watters took Subiaco to the Premiership last year and looks like he may well do so again this year. He would be an ideal candidate for the job at either Westies or South.

Should be fairly exciting for Westies fans. With the change of administration a year or so ago they now get to implement the biggest on field change since they took over from Doug Thomas. Have had some tough years, but big changes have been and are being made and hopefully this will get the bloods back up the ladder and more importantly, back up there consistently in the near future.

Are West fans happy with what is happening behind the scenes? Seems to me the departing of Wayne Weidemann has been handled very professionally and is a credit to the administration and certainly shows the great character of Wayne himself.

FATAL

i think you will find that woewodin plays at East Freo in the WAFL

he represented the WAFL v VFL earlier this year in melbourne when the WAFL got smashed

Sorry, I should have said "may as well have retired in 2001". Seriously the bloke has hardly had a kick since he somehow conned the umpires into giving him enough votes to jag a Brownlow. Not sure that being involved in one of the biggest state match trouncings in living memory on the losing side is enough to meet the position description that Westies have published though...

At least Knights was a good player.

There would be plenty of people willing to argue about the playing credentials re- Woewodin vs Knights. One played for a side that made finals once [I think] during his career and the other won a Brownlow and played for a side that made finals and even a GF.

I"m not sure Woewoewoewodin would do any better than the Weed. Westies need someone with extensive coaching experience either at state league level or as an AFL assistant. Chris Bond would be their best bet i reckon if he applied.

If West were stupid enough to even consider a bloke like Woewodin as coach then their entire board should be stood down.

Untried coach, no connection to SA footy, patchy record as a player...

Sorry, but I just can't see why he would even be in the mix.

They'd actually be better staying with Weed. Even Rehn is a better option!

i agree with you fatalberton, coaching experiance is the key here, not untried coaches . how many great players have gone on to be not so great coaches, many.

I am Aerie

They give a very professional aura to the club and I am looking forward to the new future they are promising. Both the CEO, Damien Phillips and Scott Turner the General Manager of football operations are very approachable guys and although both are very professional in their approach they mix and mingle with the 'Joe Bloggs' supporters of the club.

I think it is easy for people in their position to mix with the so called prime movers and the vocal long term supporters, but these two have both been happy to have a chat with me on a couple of occasions and I'm a no-one at the club, but their attitude makes you feel more welcome and gives you hart for the future, because in case you hadn't noticed we have not had too much to be happy about otherwise
