The National Basketball League (NBL) has announced its ninth team will be based in South East Melbourne.
The announcement was made as the Victorian Government committed $82 million funding for an expansion of the State Basketball Centre if re-elected. The Knox City Council has also committed $25 million to the expansion project.
The Victorian Government also committed a further $13 million to upgrade Melbourne Arena (formerly Hisense Arena) if re-elected.
The new NBL team will be headquartered at the State Basketball Centre and play games at Melbourne Arena starting in the 2019-20 season. It will also play two regular season games at the State Basketball Centre each season once the planned expansion has been completed.

Also today the NZ Breakers announced they've released import Jerrelle Benimon due to personal reasons and will begin the search for a replacement.

Kenny was a great coach.
Good to hear he is back at the club but what does he bring to the table as a president?
What does a president do at that level anyway?
Is it more to have his contacts/address book of players he knows?

Yeah I didn’t think many if any clubs had Presidents as such.
He’s a big character with an ego to match so hopefully him and Joey don’t clash.
It’s a paid gig I’m assuming?
Although the club surely wouldn’t have much to pay him?
Any idea of $$?

The NBL has issued a $1,500 penalty and one game suspended sentence against Adelaide 36ers Coach Joey Wright.
The NBL found Wright breached the league’s Code of Conduct in an incident involving an official in June. The suspended sentence will remain in place until the end of the 2019/20 NBL Season.
If Wright is found to breach the NBL Code of Conduct at any stage prior to the end of the 2019/20 NBL Season the one game suspension will take immediate effect in addition to any new penalty imposed by the NBL.
The NBL expects high standards of behaviour from all players, coaches and officials and breaches of its Code of Conduct will result in sanctions.
