Well done to Norwood, they've had a pretty good pre-season and can maybe push for a finals spot in 2006. There is an element of 'supporter' who just lose all sense of reality when entering a football ground, and it's not just Central fans who behave in this manner. It's part of the reason I don't attend many football games these days.

Both sides were packed with youngsters with plenty of senior players still to come back in. I wouldn't go getting excited too early boys. The Dogs still managed 13 goals with no Schell or Cowin, their two key forwards.

Good game for Central's first hit out. I was impressed by our juniors. Reece Francis stood out in the last quarter. Anyone know where he's from? I heard Mallala.

Club loyalties aside it was good to see that the SANFL is nothing like the national comp with several stoushes in the last quarter that would have incurred the wrath of fines and suspensions had it occurred in the sanitised AFL.

Entertaining match with both sides moving the ball well at times. Dogs followed their normal formula for their 1st trial by fielding a team consisting of a handful of league regulars & the "possibles".
To put it into perspective there were only 8 players from the GF side playing & the entire spine was absent. (Aufderhide, Sibenaler,Arnott,Cowan, Schell).
I'm sure the 'Legs had a few out as well so deriving anything from the scoreboard is pointless.
A couple of youngsters for the Dogs really stood out for me in Obst & Francis, along with other promising performances from Dutschke, Westhoff x 2 & Bawden.
Was interested to see how Meesen has developed. Thought McKenzie gave him a "bucketing".

Plenty of positives from a Norwood perspective, with youngsters such as Brunoli, Hughes, Sanderry, Vassal and Lower making impressive contributions, and the forward setup looking more organised .. You can see this squad learning and developing and given the age of the group they should be more than competitive for years to come!

Was impressed with some of Centrals youngsters particularly Westoff, Bawden, Dutschke and particularly Obst (and Daniel Girdham if he was the one who kicked an excellent goal in the final term, my mate thought it was a Gowans, I thought it was him).

Well done also to the Centrals fan I had a good laugh with at the end of the game ..

I thought Norwood looked like a fairly full strength side - can someone tell me who was missing from their side? However, one small thing I did notice was that they started to reduce the number of times they would automatically go wide when getting the pill - a 'feature' of their game in recent times. The Dogs were without players such as Sibenaler, Aufderide, Cowan, Schell, McCabe, Steinberner, Graham, Ware..... but the youngsters showed some good signs and Francis was the talk of the night for Dogs supporters. Who was the knobhead Norwood player that decided to take out the Dogs player (I think it was Westhoff) with an elbow to the head well after he had disposed of it in the last quarter? It's not just the supporters that can forget it's a trial - some idiotic players can be blind to this fact at times too. Apart from that , it was a good night and I was pretty pleased with some of our youngsters and what they were able to show. Alan Obst was a big surprise to me - he has really filled out and showed a lot of confidence in taking players on when running out of defence.

Full strength? Hmmm, no. Missing Carslake, Culpitt, Gallagher, Campbell (there's the on-ball brigade), deJong. As for young players, we had our fair share too. Lower, Hughes, Brunoli, Meesen, Sandery and Lewis.

For the record Norwood played at least eight players last night who played the majority of their football in the reserves last year.

Fair enough - just asking. Bit of a stretch to say you were missing Culpitt - you haen't had him yet. In that case, the Dogs were missing O'Sullivan (and maybe Butcher???) too!!! Anyway, it's pretty irrelevant at this time of year. Who is deJong? Like I say, I thought Norwood showed a few small differences in the way they went about it by going more direct. But it really is way too early to tell at this stage.

Jeez Dog, let us grin while we can. It's ok for you blokes to say 'hey it's too early' but let us get a little enthused about possible signs of a Redleg revival. How sweet would it be for you blokes if you could take out Port and Norwood in the finals on the way to number six?

Doggod, I think you'll find it was Chad Gibson who put your bloke down, but the contact wasn't made with the elbow (trust me, if Gibbo did collect him with it he'd still be down) ... It was a Hip and Shoulder bump, but granted it was high, which is why he received a free kick!

Those Gowans boys are great, fans can hate hate them all they want but they're worth every Penny to watch!! Play the old Port Adelaide style, of get the first shot in (often a cheapie) and then just wait for the retaliator to gift them a free kick on a platter, smart footy, I can't believe some of our blokes were still getting sucked in by this ... Make a mistake around those boys and with their skill, you'll pay for it EVERY time!!
