codes for dvd players

My mate just came back from america and has 2 sony dvd players, one a recorder, the other just a player.They are region one does anybody know how to fix it so it can play our region dvd's.Model numbers RDR-GX315 AND DVP-NC665P.Any help would be really great.

In past experience, google the model number and "change region" shoudl point to the solution.

On closer inspection, you can get a hack for this one but it requires a pocket PC with infra-red sending capabilities (I am fairly certain all pocket PC's have IR, so that shouldn't be a problem).

If you know someone who has one of those, then head here:

If you don't know anyone with a pocket PC, not sure what the options are as SONY state on their site that this model is not changeable - meaning they are unlikely to be of any help.

Al,sorry to be the bearer of ill tidings but I think your mate is knackered.
Region 1 is NTSC only while the video standard here (Region 4) is PAL. A region 4 machine CAN play both NTSC and PAL discs while a region 1 player is set to play only NTSC discs and this is not hackable as it has nothing to do with region coding. An analogy might be like trying to find a hack to allow your turntable to play dvds.
The irony is a region 4 machine sold in this country,by law has to be region hackable via its remote or its control display,(something to do with restraint of trade,but not the case with region 1 players).
