Sturt have blown it

Postby Jimmy » Thu Sep 06, 2007 10:01 pm

we stuffed it, not as bad as north in the last few years, but we have blown our chance to cause some damage with our injuries and playing poor footy this past few weeks.

had the db sewn up but now, i cant see us getting over north then the bays, so straight out in the ef i reckon....

honest thoughts here from a bloke who cant stand reality some times!!!!!!

good luck to the bays, they have come good at the right time, complete opp to sturt  :?

bays v eags in the PF i reckon, with the winner losing to the dogs in the gf!!!!!!!

Yes it isn't looking the best at the moment Jimmy. I reckon Rick would have something up his sleeve if he had the players at his disposal, but at any time of this year a spate injuries were always going to be a killer blow for us. If this had happened earlier in the season it may well have sapped our confidence and we wouldn't be talking about our finals chances at all, and we would have missed out on some fantastic "Rennaisance", " New Era", "Heroes", "Real Deal", "All hail MacGowan" etc... type threads.
It has been a ripper of a year compared to how we'd (almost everybody except MST and Sturt Peter) expected it to pan out and it looks as though now we are finally paying our dues to the Footy Gods for the minor round glory we were allowed to taste. Imagine if all our narrow victories had ended up as losses? I am going to roll with it, and I guess I am enjoying still being involved in the action at such a late date. I have written elsewhere that we have been the team that has always bounced back whenever everyone else has gone searching for the Double Blue Fat Lady, so I haven't abandoned all hope. Looking at the facts though, and the understanding that the players we have out are a huge part of the core that brought us this far, I agree it is pretty hard to see us marching on from here.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Appalling! You blokes have all but given up! No way I'd go into the trenches with you lot! Give me 21 honest blokes who'd die for the jumper eager to survive and victory will be ours! C'mon...focus...it's not just North, the Eagles, Bays or Centrals we're up against here, it's the wall we make for ourselves. "Hey teacher...leave them kids alone". See you all tomorrow night with better attitudes.

Go you Double Blues!

I agree with Rucc on this one.

Jimbob, appalling attitude mate. Sure, we are suffering with injuries, loss of form at the wrong time and being stuffed around with AFL listed players, but all is not lost. I believe we are still a chance to knock the Roosters off tomorrow evening and from there anything can happen. If the worst case scenario does happen, and we are forced to play in the elimination final, again I feel our experienced campaigners would hold us in good stead.

So chins up!!

Go the mighty Double Blues. This is a chance to show the SA football public what we are made of.

Yeah chin up Jimmy, North had some ordinary form and lots of injuries in the finals and still got to 3rd last year, we had to play debutants in the finals, at least you're blooding them a week earlier.

The beeautiul thing about footy, particularly our great league is that it is an un-predicatable game. As soon as you think you are on top of this game or think you are gone it has a wonderfull way of producing an unexpected result (scenario 1 Glenelg v Sturt at the Bay last year and scenario 2 BAys v North at the Bay this year)

SO if anyone thinks their team is gone or has got it made to push deep into the finals think again as this footy season has a few twists and turns left in it yet...

If the 21 blokes from any of the finals team can produce four quarters of tough hard committeed team footy for four weeks they'll end up premiers....However I do thinks Central have the inside running and do start deserved favourites.

The other four teams are equally capable of making the GF, equally capable of knocking of Centrals in the big one (I am expecting them to be there) adn also equally capacble of going out in straight sets.

So Jimmy if I was a Blues supporter (and thank god I'm not) I wouldn't be giving up on my team based on the selections for tonights game. If you are allowed to run and support each other you have the game plan to do very well in the finals.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

This thread need renaming.

Sturt (tipped to be in wooden spoon contention) have not blown it.

Exceeded expectations, blooded new exciting players, beat last years premiers during the season and just gave the pre-season flag favourites a great battle.

And next week we get a crack at the Bays in the FINALS, we avoid the Eagles who have the wood on us (for now).

Lets face it, Sturt and Glenelg are in the finals, the other 2 of the "Big 4" missed out. Port and Norwood blew it, not us.

Blew what?

When did they do this? Given they lost to Eagles both times during the home and away season.

Did better than I expected but would be disappointed with their end to the home and away season. Were they exposed on bigger grounds given they haven't played at Unley since mid-July?

I think it's because of another fantastic season from Central, people have forgotten who won last year, and just assumed it was the Dogs.

I'm not so sure that Port, Norwood, Sturt and Glenelg deserve to be called the big 4 anymore. Would like to hear arguments why those clubs are ahead of the 5 other clubs.
