Ben Moore announces retirement @ the end of the season

Postby Rushby Hinds » Sat Sep 08, 2007 9:52 pm

Moorey has announced he will retire at the end of this season.

Future Glenelg hall of famer.

Absolute admiration from me and presumably all Bays fans at the way he plays his footy.

Glenelg player through and through.

Wedgie, do you still have the photo you took of him last season after his 100th game?
He's still my hero even if he is a little bit crap.

Yep, a champion bloke and a champion player, someone who I've always admired. Good luck to him in his future pursuits and I hope the Bays can send him out in style by losing the Grand Final to North.

I assume he was, when I walked past him just after the game had finished he was in his suit.

Ben Moore was interviewed on LifeFM today at half time. He said that he felt a slight hamstring strain and all things considered it was better to err on the side of caution.

They mentioned on the ABC coverage he injured himself at training during the week.

Easy to see the family resemblance with Hodgeman when Ben was interviewed today. Hadn't noticed it much until seeing the close up.

But wait...there's Moore!
A great leader who has seen his club through difficult times. However, I'm hoping that he's just played his penultimate match..

That would be ironic (not that I'm expeting it to happen as we need to focus on Sturt ATM) because Bennys first game was against Centrals in 1995 at the Bay, we got touched up by about 20 goals and for about 5 mins in the thrid quater we were literally balck and gold training cones as Centrals kicked about three goals with barely a Bays player touching the footy.

So it would be poetic if he could go out a winner over Centrals in the big one ....

As I said (glances sideways at Sturt1) a lot of water to flow under the bridge before that happens....we have to get over Sturt first and that won't be easy.

BTW IF we do make it and Benny pulls out* just before the game like he did yesterday and we do win, will Rod Payze give him a medal too?

And many opposition supporters I would imagine ... With Steinberner as my favourite and most respected opposition player, great career and here's hoping he's not lost to SANFL footy in the future.

I want to make it clear Im not trolling, just asking the question.
Would Ben Moore make the Bays Hall of Fame after playing around 120 odd games ?
I would rate him more a champion clubman than a champion player - and theres nothing wrong with that.

I totally agree G. If he makes it into our HoF then I think our standards will have been lowered far too much. (Unless he coaches us to a couple premierships in the future or something like that)
